Ordered my xd40 the other day, I've seen nothing but good about em, I'm gonna see how much Springfield charges (and how long the wait is) to send it to em and have em install a manual safety so that there's 0% accidental discharge with a kiddo around...

Didn't even know there was an option for one...hmm. Learn something new every day.

Any more these days there isn't a huge difference between the calibers when it comes to wounds channels and penetration. Does a 147gr 9mm bullet have the knockdown power of a 255gr .45 bullet? No. But, ammo is a heck if a lot cheaper, and when shot placement is key, more practice for the same money is better. IMO. That's why I'm going with a 9mm. I was convinced I needed a .45 1911 until I saw that picture and thought a little more about it.

That is very useful information.

agreed sir, that's why I went .40S&W, as your image so well displays, the 165gr .40 makes a big HOLE (not just a shock cavity) and given that I can buy boxes of 100 rds for ~$25, I'll stick to .40

magazine capacity almost won me out on 9mm but, I wanted something that if I had to shoot a large animal with it, I could feel confident that it was going to drop with less than a full mag poured into it.

Oh, on that post I thought you were wanting a .40 and I was asking why not just get the .45, but if you are talking .9mm than there is a big difference.

I am getting a .40, 12 rounds in the .40 vs 16 rounds in the 9mm was the debate, I went .40

Ammo costs are higher than I like on the .45, and, I'm replacing a .40, for which I already own 600+ rounds...
