Wrecked the X

So a lady pulled out in front of me on my way home from work Tuesday. I was going about 40 mph and when she pulled out I had no time to move or hit the brakes. Lucky both of us are ok, I just have a badly bruised and swollen knee, and a bad spot from the lap belt. The wreck was completely her fault so I'm not liable here.

My X however is more than likely totaled, looks like frame damage and the airbag did deploy. This sucks because I really liked this particular rig and had a lot of memories with it. On the other hand it's probably best if it does get totaled, it appears there is frame damage and I don't want that on my record if I do decide to sell one day.

My dilemma here is what to do now? One of my first thoughts was a full size truck. I don't really need one however. Plus I'd lose the ability to offroad and I really like having a smallish but very useable sized SUV. Next obvious choice was another X, seeing as how I've had 2 that I really liked that have given me no problems. I could always get a cheaper early 90s ford if I need a truck later.

Then I see the FJ trail teams edition. Equipped as well as and in some cases better than a Pro-4X, but in all honesty to me, the FJ just looks head and shoulders better than the X. The problem with those is the price. We're talking right at 40grand and I doubt Toyota is going to deal on a special edition, plus this is the last year of the FJ. I don't think there is any other way to get the fj with a body colored roof, I just don't like the white roof ones.

Anyways, do you guys have any advice for me? I'm really digging the fj, but is it worth it?

As you can see I was pleased with how well the x held up and kept me safe.

Wow. Glad everyone is okay. Looks like you ran over her hood?

I hear you on the FJ. There are some plusses. But to me, it's just not worth the money. And I can guarantee you are correct. You won't get any kind of deal on a special edition in the last year. You're going to pay MSRP or more depending on demand. And that just isn't worth the coin.

I would look at the pro4x frontier.. It gives you a truck yet the same off road function as your Xterra..

Glad you're ok man

Wow! Glad you ok. Every fj i have driven has the steering wheel shimmy at 65 mph. The ultimate trail teams is nice. Drove a new one at the dealer. And it had it! Best full size truck i have driven as of late would be the TUNDRA. The redesign is great! Even tho its the same tranny/engine. Nothing wrong with a pro 4x frontier either. Nissan dealer here had $7,000 off the TITANS a few weeks back.

Thanks for the responses. My gut is telling me to just stick with the X. The wreck kind of shook me up a bit, if I wouldn't have had errands to run that day I would have been on my bike, which would have ended a lot worse for me. I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to ride anymore, but that's just something I have to see for myself.

On the plus side if I do get another x then sell the bike, I could fund quite a build...

I think I would miss the trails
too much with a truck.

Glad everyone is ok and sorry to hear about the x. I loved my fronty. I think they are a great choice in truck. However, there are slight differences between the two. Fronty has a longer wheel base and the turning radius is less than desirable. Besides that not much difference. As DRB said, if possible go pro4x if you can.

the 2014 pro-4x rims are awesome and they come nicely equipped. yours appears to be 2009+ so being totaled it's payed for now with hopefully some extra coin. or just buy the one for sale on the other xterra site because it's rigged

I'm one of the few people who doesn't like the new wheels as much. I have seen pictures of a new Pro 4x with nav, but when I build one on Nissans site, I have no option to add nav. Anyone know whats up with that? Is there anyone on here or a site I can go to and see exactly what is different standard and option wise on a 2014 Pro 4x vs my 2012 Pro 4?

As far as a frontier, I like them and have seen them do well on trails. I however do not like the wheelbase near as much for trails and have pretty much decided against a truck now. There may be 2 or 3 times a year I wish I had a truck, and I can always borrow one or hook up a trailer. The rest of the time I am happier with the utility of an SUV.

I also think I am going to drive an FJ just to see how I like it. I still expect to stick with an Xterra though. I'm very familiar with them since I have done my own maintenance and read tons of info on this forum. Anything else would probably just feel foreign to me.

So I can look at my claims online through my state farm account. The body shop is a preferred customer so State Farm doesn't even have to send a claims adjuster out to look at it. The estimate is for $15,085 worth of parts and labor. I owed $16,328 as of August 8th. Do you guys think it will be totaled since its only $1300 of difference? I'm hoping so because I know that down the road I'm not going to be happy knowing that I'm rolling around on a repaired frame and that is going to be on the X's history if I ever want to sell...

I just had $15k+ in damage fixed on my '13 Pro-4X. I was told the formula for totaling was $ of damage is >75-80% of the replacement value. Nothing to do with how much is owed.

you can owe $0 or $30,000 doesn't matter. just the value of the vehicle is what matters. if you owe more than it's worth and it gets totaled that's what GAP insurance is for (guaranteed asset protection) and it'll cover the difference for you. example your truck let's say is worth 15k for the purpose of this statement. your damage is more than the cost of what your vehicle is worth and you owe $16k so if they total it out you will technically be $1k in the hole. GAP covers that $1k for you.

BUT if you have frame damage that's an automatic total. it's illegal for them NOT to total it with frame damage.

. it's illegal for them NOT to total it with frame damage.

And this isnt true. You can fix a truck with frame damage it truely all depends on what the vehicle is worth and how much damage. Now usually with frame damage the labor rate to pull a frame automatically puts you over the80% of value, but its not illegal to fix frame damage and not have a salvage title.

Claims adjuster called me earlier and said that it looks like a total loss, but that another person in the total loss division would have to contact me to give me more info. She said I could expect the call in 24 hours, so hopefully this will be resolved soon...

Hopefully it will go fast. When a drunk hit my parked fronty and totaled it, I went from no truck and rental to new X in exactly 7 days.

Hopefully so, I've had State Farm since I started driving at 16 and they have been very easy to work with. Hopefully I get mine paid off and a decent check for a down payment, then I may be joining you in the blue X owners club lol.

Glad everything worked out ok and all are well.

Isn't it strange how that works out sometimes?
3 yrs ago, wife and I heading to lowes. Was going to take the Altima , then was going to take the X. Then changed mind again and took the f350 so we could get landscape stones.
Got rear ended by a f250 going 45 at a traffic light and we're behind an e350 van. Woulda smashed us flat in the Altima and maybe not too good in the x either.
The f350 won the contest out of all 3 of them and we didn't do too bad other than concussion, whiplash and hurt neck. Truck that hit us was totaled and both people hurt.

Yesterday I was finally informed that the X is totaled, and I came out decent in the end with enough cash for a downpayment and a mod or two.

I have a Blue 2014 Pro 4X on the way, exactly what I wanted. It just sucks I have to start over on payments again. Anyways a build thread will be started soon, and hopefully it won't be as slow as my last one. Might even be able to make it to WENT for a day or two, we'll see.

Anyways thanks for the kind words and concern everyone.

So State Farm called and said my check is in. I will get that tomorrow and be ready to pick up my new Pro 4x as soon as it comes in.

I also saw the owner of the body shop at the hardware store today. I thought that my X had already been picked up, but he said it was still there. There is a slim chance but I'm hoping I can go get my sliders off of it before State Farm comes to pick it up. They are still in great shape and it would save me several hundred dollars if I can reuse them.

I'm just glad everything is coming together. It has sucked not having an x for the past 22 days...

It will be there Casey. Only for show though. Remember, sliders save lives! (Or at least rocker panels). It shouldn't be too long before I order a set. Or you could work your magic again and win a second gen set of white knuckles for me in the raffle.
