Anyone replace the factor towing harness for an aftermarket one? which one did you get. I'm trying to find one that will control the Brake, Turning and backup lights on a camping trailer.

TKD, I have never seen a 1st Gen with a brake controller setup, can it even happen and what brands are offered?

The 2 traile places I spoke to said Nissan is specific with it's harness. A generic one can't be used for some reason. In reading trailer threads on ExPo some of them have electric brakes. I was wondering if anyone here had brakes and what harness did they use.

I have the very first one on that list for our Titan and I do not see the harness that it comes with plugging up to anything in a first gen.

Never mind, I did not see the other needed item for installation which looks like it will give you all the extra things and instructions on how to convert your 4 pole to a 7 pin and get the power to it.

I have trailer brakes and 7 pin hplug on my 2004.
I use this to connect to my factory plug:
http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Nissan/Xterra/2004/118244.html?vehicleid=20045673

Then I use this to adapt it from 4 to 7 pin.

The brake control, positive battery and reverse have to be manually run wires but it works great. Also the advantage of the second part is you get the option of both 4 and 7 pin connections. I will post pictures of the mounting later.

Thank you Sir...this is what I was looking for. I should email this to the so-called "TRAILER EXPERTS"... :lols:

Here are the only pictures I have of it. I drilled a 2 inch home and mounted it right into the bumper as I did not want anything more hanging down.
