Threw a code, fuel guage slow?

First off, don't shoot if there's already a thread on this, I searched but to no avail. I went wheeling today and everything was golden. About 3 or 4 hours later I went and fueled up. I started up the X and my fuel gauge still read between 1/4 and 1/2. Right where it was before I stuck the nozzle in the truck. No huge deal, it's done it once before and driving home, the gauge went to full. So I made another quick stop, when I started the truck the second time it threw a code. (Haven't had it read yet, plan to on Saturday.) it took about 20 minutes of driving to make the gauge read correctly, but the code still exists. Anyone had this before? Any guidance would be helpful, and thank you in advance.

Maillet is correct. The fuel sending units were going bad on the early 2nd gens. There is a service bulletin on it. My '05 X and Pathy both went bad. The dealership replaced them for me for just the coast of the part. ~$45 each IIRC.

You guys are awesome. I had a theory that they were connected and you've confirmed it with science and magic. Since I'm already typing, do you guys have any idea what the repair $ is gonna look like..?

Thanks alot mine has been messed up for about a month. I had found where other people had the issue but didn't know there was a TSB out for it.

UPDATE:

So after I had driven around enough for the fuel gauge to read correctly, I went wheeling. Magically, the code disappeared... I guess I'd worry about it more if it was something dire...

It comes and goes - until it goes for good.

It actually ends up making it work in reverse for me. So when I have a full tank I show a low fuel light and no gauge. But when I have low fuel the gauge starts working again. Usually on my last 3-4 gallons.

Haha well it's a good thing the X comes equipped with a trip meter... I always reset mine on a fill up, JIC. I know I can go 200mi to about 1/4 tank, so still nothing to worry about. gobble bless the X!

That trip meter is a life saver. I average abt 240-260 and have to put abt 19 gallons in. So I always have atleast 2 gallons left, kinda.

The fix isn't hard, it just is annoying. You have to drop the tank, and nobody got time for all that.
Atleast not at the moment, lol
