ok so basically, its pretty self explanatory on what i did so far. i held the step up to the fender and eye balled it
where it should go, and made a rough estimate hole in the middle about half the size needed.
i then made more acurate measurements and then went from there cutting this hole out. i put a dab of paint on all the screws to show where i should cut (i didnt even have a drill haha ) and then cut the holes out. when i put it in, i realized that it was angled wrong like i thought it would be.
so i cut out two of the three bolts with real metal bolts (you know when you see the steps) and cut holes big enough for the whole mount of each bolt to go through the step to suck it up better. i then used washers and the piece of plastic i cut out of the original hole and sandwhiched the washers between the step and the piece of plastic. i cut two holes out of the plastic cut out and then tightened everything down. im sure theres a beter way of explaining it, but im tired and on my phone so ill redo all this for the actual write up. but heres pics of what im talking about:
this sinched up the front and angled it all write. this is definately a hard project, because the angles are wrong, but with a razor and some sand paper, you can smooth it all out. i will make a better way of mounting this up if i see fit, but it made that piece of plastic extremely rigid.
the next part of the project is to cut out a hole big enough for the toe area of the step that went through the step, to go through the metal of the mody. there are a few ways you could do this. cut the hole exactly the right size, and then trust where you put your feet...
or cut the hole bigger on the bottom, and make the bracket that comes with the step fit from the inside, rather than mount to the outside of the metal. this makes the step bracket shorter, and you will be able to make it the perfect length. i havent done this yet, but when i do ill let ya know. ill probably just use long bolts and drill through and use nuts on the other side. it should be plenty strong enough to hold anyones weight. 4 grade 8 bolts shound be plenty. i will use tube metal to move it in or out as much as needed to fit right.
