Shaking wheel/steering

I put new tires (33x12.5x15) on my X last Friday. When I drove it up to the shop the steering had no issues at all. Now when I’m driving at low speeds (25-35 mph post larger tires) I get a shake in my steering wheel. My first thought was I need an alignment but after a few searches I see that a bad alignment will not make your steering shake. Could it be a bad balancing job? Or should I check something else before I take it back to Discount?

Could've had a weight fall off. Since you bought them at discount, they'll rebalance whenever you like. It's the cheap (free) fix, so might as well start there.

Agree with Muadeeb, start with a rebalancing, but balance issues are normally accompanied by a "bouncing" feel versus a "shaking" if that makes sense. If it persists then it could be bushings in the steering system. Also, large and open tread patterns such as those on an MT will sometimes cause shudder at low speeds, especially if overinflated.

I have Goodyear Duratracs so maybe it is the tread causing it. I guess the good thing is I know for sure it wasnt doing it with my old bald tires.

Take a large piece of sidewalk chalk, coat the tires at their current (or suggested) running pressure and see how much of a footprint you're getting.

My BFG KM2s are "recommended" at 52psi, but I run 46psi because of the weight of my truck. My tires were overinflated from Discount because that's what the manufacturer recommends. Felt like I was riding on ice skates (plus the new MT tread) until I let a few pounds out of them.

Duratracs don't vibrate that badly. Trust me... If there's a vibration from the tires, my TJ will let me know.

Thanks for the update! Too many times we never hear what the actual resolution is.
