"Service Engine Soon' light

Razzmaniac

Didnt put the gas cap on correctly and about 10 minutes my Service Engine Soon light came on. I know there has to be an actual distance of driving to reset it but I have only driven a few miles here and there. Probably total of 50 miles by now and the light is still on. .UGH!!!!!!
Any idea why or what may be the issue?

I've done that and had it take anywhere from one short drive to a couple of days for it to clear. You can try taking the battery cable off for a few minutes to see if it resets. If it stays on and you don't have a code reader just go by your local O'Reilly Auto Parts, Advance, AutoZone, whatever. They aren't supposed to clear the code for you but they can at least tell you what it is.

I thinks it's key turns.. You have to hit so many ..

Or you can pull the battery cable for 30 mins or so..

It's a complex driving pattern --
Part A:
Coolant reaches 158*
Coolant goes up by 78* after start
Engine speed over 400 RPM
Ignition Off

Part B:
Everything OBD is measured without malfunction (what that means is anyone's guess)

If Part A happens with no malfunctions 40 times, then the code will no longer be stored.
If Part B happens 3 times, the light will clear.

Or, as other have suggested: pull the negative battery cable for about 30 minutes.
