So my buddy Tim and I want to tackle on a custom bumper build. He's a mechanical engineer and in his 5th year finalizing his classes. First real life scenario he wants to tackle is a bumper design specifically for my X.

Our goal is style, extreme structure but with weight reduction. I know.. Haha.. Every other goal of bumper making. So we'll give it a try.

I started with a sketch and will be improving it as we go.

It's centered around the schrockwork first gen bumper.

We have the first draft in solid works now, but we will need better measurements to hone in on the exact design.

I was also thinking of recreating the front of the X in solid works for a future template.

so first thing is first. Designing the front end in solid works. Two reasons. To work on different designs as well as provide details for future designers.

Learning solidworks as I go, havn't played with a cad program in years. THIS IS HUGE!

30 mins in and I have body mounts and bushings!

after a couple hours last night.

Most of these measurements are to the 1/16" but ill need to go back with some calipers and recheck it. Anyone got a heated garage I can use?

Not to shabby for a guy who never hasn't picked up a CAD program in 5 years.

Nismo, If I was in TN I wouldn't need a heated garage! hell, anything beats working in 33* weather right now. Even painting my wheels is outa the question till spring, but... I do want to see the new xterra plant *sly* o.0\m/

Damn, that is outstanding work. I'm willing to donate my truck for measurement if you ever want to do a 2nd gen.

Hahaha, it isn't much better here! 40* and a solid North wind. Eugh. I can't paint anything until March/April.

Thanks everett. Yeah theres a learning curve. still picking up the software and getting use to it. But Id once I have the front end of the x all measured up, Id love to work on a second gen.

Oh even better, Mock up the front sides and rear, giving out the cad to any Fabricators, allowing them to have the measurements they need without a truck. Sliders, Tire Carriers, Bumpers, Oh My!
