That was a dude with a Montero that tried it before I did and couldn't make it. He also said " I have the balls but not the equipment". He was really hammering on the Montero all day.

Tom this thing is BEASTLY!! Loving the locked video. That guy was hilarious. Next time, tell him to butch up a little. ;)

Thanks, only cost me a torn ABS wire and a trip to the dealer to find out why all the dash lights were on. Turns out both front ABS wires were broken.

Looking through your build I see that you had 650# springs with a stock bumper for a while. Then you went aftermarket bumper and winch.

How was the ride with those springs before and after the bumper?

I ask because I plan on lifting first and getting a bumper farther down the road. Just want to make sure I get springs that are ok without a bumper at first, but then can support a bumper later.

The ride with the 650# springs on the 2.5 Icon shocks is greatwith or without the bumper and winch. I removed the front sway bar with this setup and there is some body roll but not anything extreme. You will be fine with 650# springs, the ride will be firm but not harsh without a heavy bumper.

Mel, I think I had the rear locker on breaking the ice. I didn't use the front, the X doesn't like to turn with both lockers on.

That sounds about right then. I was always curious to know if I needed to save enough dough to do bumper and lift at the same time. I do imagine that your tube bumper weighs a good bit less than a Hefty or Shrock though...

Also, I am very jealous of your dual lockers.

The bumper is a Rocky Mtn X winch cradle with the tubes welded to it. Maybe lighter than a solid bumper but with the winch in there its pretty heavy.

Its been a work in progress. A rock here, a tree there, stumps and rocks on the sides of wash outs. Part of the hazards of off roading.

Great video! There has been lots of talk about the weak point being CV's on a locked R180. This pretty much sums that up.
