I wanted a power inverter hard wired into my X so I decided to do another write-up. Hope this gives y'all some good ideas.
I used the following equipment:
Cobra CPI-875 Power Inverter
SR-80 High Current Relay
Distribution Block
Ground Block
Inline Fuse (4ga)
Mounted Inline Fuse (4ga)
Fuses: 100A, 80A
4ga wire: 12 feet
8ga wire: 2 feet
18ga wire: 20 feet
Various Connectors (Rings & Quick Disconnects)
Switch (Reused a blank cover from the X to mount)
Here is the wiring diagram.
I tucked all of the wiring and components into the passenger side pocket in the cargo area. Notice the bolts coming through the holes in the panel (formerly used to attach the little net). They are used to attach my mounting plate. The plate covers the wiring and is very low-profile. The black extension cord is run from the back up to the front console where I have outlets under the stereo. Pictures later...
Wiring behind the side panel.
Rear ground point.
Inverter wired in and the mount plate attached.
Inverter installed.
Sits inside of the wheel well so I can do my rear cargo box with no interference from the inverter.
Engine bay wiring
Switch mounted (Off). (I used a 3/4" paddle bit and cut out a hole in the blank cover plate from the X. Be careful at this point to get it centered as the plate is just barely larger than 3/4". I went pretty slow but it turned out great.
Switch mounted (On).
