Has anyone else noticed the Xterra disappearing from TV ads and print?

Im guessing this is due to the next Gen 2014 Xterra releasing sometime in the next year. Even the web site shows 2012 Xterra.

I know Nissan did a press release on the 2013 but little is known past the normal blaaa blaaa..

I have been out of the Xterra loop for a year at the plant so anything I post up right now is speculation at best..

Lets keep our fingers crossed

I'm going to leave specifics out, but my step-dad works for a special little company next door to Nissan in Smyrna. Lets just say he's in the know with the engineers and test drivers.

I did notice that too, though. Its about time for a new generation.

Well, the X popped up in a few ads last year (though nothing specifically for the X itself). It hasn't really changed much since 05 so I guess (and hope) it's just run out of marketing steam for now.

That isnt good news to me, everything nissan has totally redone i.e. pathy has been worse than before. But who knows maybe they did that so they can focus the sporty/offroad/adventureness on the xterra. Could go either way.

I totally noticed this yesterday but thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me. I don't have Tivo so I couldn't rewind but now I know I'm not crazy.

Our dealership just got a huge renovation too and sometimes there wont be a single xterra on the lot. Other times if there is its used and was a trade in or something, I have been wondering out that.

i will be the first to contact Nissan USA HQ and complain if they cut back on its off roadness for stupid MPGs.

we all saw what jeep did to the Cherokee..... i hope the gen 3 Xterra doesnt go down that road.

I really hope Nissan isn't as dumb as Jeep was... I've been listening to my local 4x4 group do nothing but cry how bad the new "Cherokee" is. PLEASE NISSAN STAY AWAY FROM JEEPS "Bright Ideas". I really hope they keep it sporty looking with great offroad capabilities. DO NOT go IRS too!

One of my customers owns a local Nissan dealership. I asked about the new X's and he told me that he knows a new one is coming but couldn't give me a delivery date. He also said that he'd let me know if he heard something. So as soon as I hear something, you'll know something.

I think the Nissan dealership here in Fort Collins has all the 2012 Xterras sitting on their lot here, there are probably a couple hundred sitting on their two lots from some "Record Breaking" Xterra sales event they had about a month back. Still waiting (impatiently) to see what happens next with the Xterra though.

I'm hoping they will keep it not only off-road worthy but also easily recognizable. I'd hate to see it change so much that I wouldn't know what it was from a distance. It seems to me the Xterra's main competition would be the FJ Cruiser so hopefully our beloved X won't be going the way of the Pathfinder. I know nothing about new vehicle marketing but making two products that are very similar to each other would seem to hurt sales of both. Choices are nice. I choose rugged looks and capability.

13 xterra

The website has the 12 listed but when you click on it, it changes to the 13 model with all the specs etc.

And i read somewhere nissa said the sheetmetal was going to be revised to help increase the mpg's....no mention of anythng else, but i'd think there would also be some engine (?) news at some point, i'm guessing the 14 model will be the revised one since the 13's are showing up on lots now.Or will it be a 15?

So where did everybody go? Well ... they followed Jeep's lead and made it a car ... crap! Just bought a 2012 so I would at least have a few more years of fun. Was warned by my dealer to buy one now versus wait ... the end of an era. Owned a Cherokee a few years back (an 88) and it was awesome. Went to sell it when it rolled 200,000 and looked at the new ones ... they were cars ... not a truck part in them. So goes version #3 of the Xterra ... it is a soccer moms car now ...

What are you seeing? I think you're talking about the pathfinder. The gen 3 Xterra hasn't been released yet.

Ok, from what involvement I have with Nissan, I can say that they have sourced the parts for the new Titan/Armada and are currently finalizing design. There will be 2 models of the Titan they will keep the 5.6, but also there will be a heavier duty version that will be a V8 Diesel. I know this because my company has been awarded the business for the 2 different brake pedals. Now, that being said...we have not even seen an RFQ come across for the next xterra and I believe it is due to them wanting to finish the Titan design first so that they can carry over the design to Frontier and Xterra the same way they did with the F Alpha platform.

I had to drive my dad's Titan for about 2 weeks while my X was down....commuting down the interstate with that V8 (and sweet sounding factory exhaust) was hell on my wallet..I hated putting gas in it!!

There are things in this world more important than gas money. Like the total badassery that would be a V8 X.

No need, you can get more power than the V8 puts down out of the VQ40 without changing any parts, just electronic tuning. And you keep the fuel economy of the VQ instead of losing it quickly like the VK

Nismo.. They had a v8 in the pathy so I'm sure they could make it fit in the x.

The navara comes with a diesel so ..

From what I have been told they are testing a x/fronty out west.. I'd say they are doing the same with the Titan too..

I wouldn't want a v8 in the next gen xterra..
Too much motor for a smaller SUV . I also heard the xterra will keep the same 4.0 they have worked with the internals for less friction and I think your going to see a 6 speed AT

In support of that concept may i cite the, what seems to me as a pointless addition, Nissam Armada. Why -is- it???

Well it used to be the Pathfinder Armada and it was just a bigger Pathy. Something that is meant to compete in the Suburban/Yukon/Sequoia/Escalade market. Except it doesn't. Because all of those have nicer finishes, nicer ride, and are better appointed.

The local dealers don't have any Xs in stock anymore. I think one dealer has a dark green 2wd. But that's it. I hope the 3rd gen truck comes back in a big way.

Oh crap they are calling out a front e-locker from the company I work for (GKN). That explains the supplier discount. Factory invoice, less $950 and, any incentives.

I work in GKN's aerospace division, they also have a driveline business unit that happens to be a big supplier to Nissan. Because of that I get Nissans family and, partner discount.

It's not every day I see the company I work for listed in a product sheet. Most the time our stuff is rebadged.

Is that GKN the same that makes a ton of fuel filters used by many OEMs and some aftermarket? I ask because the private label fuel filters where I work come from a company called GKN and they're great filters.
