Is it just me or does the new Jeep Renegade look like an Offroad Edition of a Scion xB / Nissan Cube / Kia Soul?? Also... "X" tail lights?

Yeah, the website touts "Best-In-Class" on several fronts, 4x4 capability, articulation, approach / departure angles... but this is actually in the same segment as the Cube/xB/Soul bunch. As a matter of fact its dimensions are purportedly very close to those of the Cube. As far as price, I can't find any solid numbers, but every indication points at the base being under $20k. The "Trail Rated" TrailHawk edition comes with a 1" factory lift and red powder-coated tow-hooks front and rear... which is good, I think buyers will be needing those...

To clarify, it is based on the FIAT 500x platform, i.e. the FIAT Panda. If you are not familiar with that vehicle, I highly suggest you go google it on Top Gear. The vehicle is rated best in Europe for small-class SUV and apparently performs very well for its size.

Just because it is different, does not mean it is crap. Bigger is not synonymous with better. Just look at the Ford Excursion for proof of that.

The "X" tail lights are based on the X found on old school gas cans. More detailed info here: http://blog.caranddriver.com/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-2015-jeep-renegade-2014-geneva-auto-show/

I am holding out to see how this vehicle does. Obviously, being at a $15,000+ price point- you get what you pay for. Cheaper interior, small engine, uncomfortable driving and less gizmos and gadgets inside.

And I resent your comment insinuating that females have no class or knowledge of off roading vehicles.

I will agree that different isn't always a bad thing...

These little things are only here to help Jeep meet the CAFE regs put in place for 2015..

Lets be honest though.. That thing isn't going to be heading out into the woods.. its not a 4x4 by any means... Its a AWD system..
They can come up with all these new names like "Trailhawk" (Which is a killer name to me) all they want to sell it as a real off road capable thingy
but we know better.. Would it handle snow well? I bet it would.. Would it handle fire/service roads well? Im sure.. but thats where I personally think
this little things value ends. Much like what Nissan did the the Pathfinder name once the Xterra came alone, These Cherokee's and Renegade's are hardly
reminiscent of the JEEP heritage.

I seen someone post a 15k price rage on this... Im guessing a trail hawk is in the 25k range.. Jeep is well known to over price their cars..
35k for a Cherokee and 45k for a Grand.. Want to see people in the off road world really **** their pants? Wait till next year when they release the 4th gen Wrangler with IFS... I bet its a total front and rear system too.

I'm not really a fan of it (nor the current Cherokee, for that matter). I completely understand what they're trying to do with it, but I wouldn't go and try to sell it as an "off road-capable" vehicle as it seems they are hinting at. My roommate drives an AWD Kia Sorento, which is basically the same thing as this IMO.

The target market for this is the soccer mom crowd. I doubt Jeep intends for someone to take this to Moab and do anything close to "serious offroading". Jeep feels that it fills a need, so they produced this.

We are not the target market, so our opinions really don't matter.

I'm with Mel. I dig it, and it will be the perfect vehicle for the segment and for the buyers it is aimed at. None of us as Xterra owners are in that target market, and neither is anyone who would be cross shopping a Wrangler. But it is a great way for Jeep to draw in younger buyers and build brand loyalty as those buyers seek a vehicle later in life that can do a bit more than the Renegade they purchased when they were younger. I just don't want anyone to dismiss it out of hand.

Guess I shouldnt spread the word that I am considering getting this, bwahaha. And I am cross shopping for a Rubicon. :p

I look at it more akin to a Suzuki Samurai type of vehicle than a Cube type of vehicle. If it's got a locker (which the Trailhawk edition does), then I'm interested.

I dont like it. Yes it could do well and yes you get what you pay for and no i dont think that 'females have no class or knowledge of off roading vehicles" as at the GPAX Shocker run this year a female drove half the day and did better than her husband in some obstacles. I just dont think that it'll sell well. I put it in the class of the patriot or compass which appealed to the more female demographic. just saying. My $.02. Jeeps aren't crap...just not my cup of tea

I am by no means a jeep hater or do I knock females at all..... but....

All of the new jeep SUVs have took a turn downhill if you ask me. They use to be rugged vehicles and now they look like they are shifting toward the more grocery hauling luxury car trend. To me the only reason they still promote it being "trail rated" is so your average person (someone whom only drives on the street) will feel like they are safe in case of snow, etc.

I'm just giving all of you a hard time.

Generally, I agree with your statements about the designing direction Jeep has taken lately. The new Cherokee is horrendous and the Compass and Patriot are simply sad IMO. But they seem to fit into their particular niche of the market. Hopefully the new Renegade will be successful, too.

Looks like the offspring of a FJ cruiser and a Jeep Compass. Don't know but those seeking the adventure image will fall for its tricks. For 90% of the American public it will fit the bill as a snow capable commuter CAR.

i can honestly say that as a road vehicle Jeep is getting there stuff right. I rode in the trailhawk on their camp jeep simulator thing at the auto show here in philly and it was comfortable, beautiful interior, tons of space. But I would never in a billion years want to do any sort of trail in it. Is it trail rated? sure...doesnt mean it necessarily belongs there. I think this is the same with the new renegade. They are going after the people that want to very seldomly take it off road, maybe the beach or a state park with very mild fire service trails. but no way in a billion years am i taking a $35k nice ass jeep over rocks that isn't a wrangler.

I will openly admit, this thread has gotten a lot more action than I thought it would and I absolutely love the discussion that is happening here. I already know you guys (and gals) are all awesome, but it's just really good to see civil discourse taking place on the interwebz.

Especially after seeing the 2WD's that were with us rock the trails this past weekend, I just want to shout at the folks driving around "You don't know what you're missing out on!!!" Showing a friend of mine photos of Chetter and FFPEAVES rides inspired him to consider joining us on our next run. /endtangent
