Need advice from the Xterra community

Team, I need some advice. I ordered a front bumper from Calmini over two years ago and still no delivery. It seems like a lot of companies that used to do after market support for Nissans have gone under. I like the look of the dezertrunner stuff but don't know if I'm going to get burned again. Does anyone have any advice?

Yeah. Calmini is really good at that. Did you at least do a charge back and get your money?

With Shrock going under the options are certainly limited. I'm not familiar with that brand you mentioned. Others to consider are Hefty Fab and Coastal Off Road.

Calmini are theives. Sorry about that man, they've cheated a bunch of folks.

Dezert Runner SEEMS to be OK, but I don't personally know anyone who's ordered from them.

And Hefty only makes the aluminum bumpers now AFAIK.

I think Dave (maxterra) has plans for a front bumper but I'm not sure how soon it'll be out.

@ffxcores has the Expedition One bumper I think.

I'm going to go arb on mine, I think. If it's proven itself in the Australian bush, it's good enough for me.

Well you have to remember that ARB spent a lot of time and money lobbying the Australian government to outlaw custom bumpers that weren't crash tested and basically had a monopoly on their bumper market for something like 20 years till other companies could afford to have their stuff tested.

Plus you have to have tow points because you're not able to pull or which off of their bumper because the crash testing requires the bumpers to fold when in an accident so they aren't as stout as most of our aftermarket options.

Well, the folding bit is interesting.... I'll have to look into that one...

The ARB winch bumper is definitely made from thinner steel than my Shrock (I've seen one "trimmed" on the trail with a sawzall) but does have working tow points. I have pulled more than a few trucks equipped with them out of trouble. I believe they are "reinforced" where the winch mounts and at the tow points.

Just a side note: I might have a line on a used ARB off a 2000 Fronty (same part #3438110 for 2000-04 Xterra) next month in NJ. It might need to be cleaned up and repainted but probably much less than the $1g+ a new one costs.

I'll post it up with pictures if/when it becomes available.

Edit: I agree, Calmini sucks

Since you posted in Mid Atlantic section (hello neighbor), Hardcore Off-road in Weedville PA makes a really nice front bumper and they are on the cheaper end of fabricators. Or at least used to be, haven't checked in a while. I used to run a hardcore bumper and loved it.

I did not know any of that. Good to know.
