I did reindex the torsion bars, it doesn't change the amount you can lift it with a stock uca. The bumpstops half to be at a half inch reindexed or not. I can take more slack out of the suspension but I'm at about as high as I can go without new bumpstops, which I will be getting because my rake is terrible. The carrier isn't a big problem at all. Even though it's a 1/2 inch too tall for the lift gate it can be installed. I can either roll my hatch lip, which I'm not going to do, or I can have my ASE welder get at it with a plasma cutter and reweld it together at 3/4 inches lower, to allow for flexage and mismeasurement and whatever unnatural forces may occur. The second option is free so I may as well keep my body parts in fine shape.

There is good news from the world of teenagers and X's. I have a convert! my buddy Cody is about to turn 16 and is asking me for vehicular advice. He was thinking about a 4runner but he likes the stuff I've done to my X. Needless to say. He is shopping for a 1st gen '00-01 because he likes my square headlights. Manual of course with 4wd. I am beyond stoked because I get to work on 2 X's for double the pain in the butt... err... fun i mean. =D I get to do all the fun stuff again!

Thank you Steve! I'm glad someone gets it! I did however see a guy around here swap a 1.5 gen hood onto a 1 gen. They look killer after you fill the bug eye headlight holes with cuts from your old hood. It's the bulge to accommodate the supercharger that makes it look cool. oh and probably that the truck was SAS'd and on like 38's... maybe a bit of that too.

OK so it's been over a month since I last posted, but with good reason, I passed all of my classes with at least a B which is good. Anyways to celebrate my buddy Jack's birthday/graduation I took him on his first ever trip offorad, nothing to crazy just some trails up a little north of Empire off of I-70 That was all at night so you get no photos, however today I went out again with my friend Tyler, who named the X as today was his last day in Colorado and likely a goodbye for a while. Anyways, Photos tomorrow!

OK So I shall skip the trips taken with tyler and Jack. They were both in Empire and shall be shown with the glory of the next few shots. On wednesday I got out of school. I loaded up the X with Jack and Mikey on thursday morning and headed out for some camping! Also there was some obligatory wheeling to get there.

So without further ado...

Empire CO-

The Wheeling, somewhere not so near Idaho Springs-

An interesting fact about the last photo is that on the far right in the mountains there is an avalanche occuring. The picture was taken at 13,250 feet. About 5 minutes later we got another avalanche on video due to some high winds. Maybe I'll get that up eventually

On another note my favorite photos are the two final ones from each section

So I've been thinking suspension for the last couple weeks and I have come up with some options.... Cost is not an issue here. I am a teen with no bills other than gas so all my cash goes into car parts. I would however like to know bang for the buck, and time to do everything. That being said let's here some opinions and get to it!!

Option 1: Do the SL only, try to cram 33's under there, if not 32's are ok... I guess ~$900ish here for the lift, and $900 again for tires/ wheels

Option 2: BL and SL and 33's definitely ~$1000 for the lifts and again $900 for wheels/ tires

Sub Option 1: Don't regear to 4.9's

Sub Option 2:Do regear to 4.9's (+$100-300)

I've thought about the TC long travel and an SAS and they would be cool but I'm just not wanting to wait and then the cost is just absolutely insane for a first vehicle that I likely won't keep forever, although I would love to keep her around for a while

Personally I vote for option 2 with possible regear. If you can find a totaled Xterra that has the gears I vote do it, however if not, I still say Body lift and 33's. IMHO this is how the Xterra should come stock.

When you do this mod, The X just looks mean, aggressive and boss status.

I have a BL and PML with 265/75/16's and it honestly doesn't look like I have that much lift and my tires are too small.. It sucks because I am just older than you (college kid) and so my money goes into bills and other things so little money goes into the X.. I am planning on bigger tires, because you need the tires to really make the lift look "right"

It's worth mentioning that I will be swapping to a 15" rim to save on tires, the way I see things it's worth the $250 to get new wheels and then save that in tires, because in the long run I'll wind up saving on tires by potentially $3-500 per set. That and I want 33" grabber red letters.

my thing about BL's is the need to relocate things such as bumpers. That is something that I have no real ability to do.

Also, I hooked bumpers with a jeep and proceeded to pull him up the block. I giggled a lot.

there is news about the X! Unfortunately not the best news.

I have had a broken motor mount for many moths now and I finally got around to finding out exactly what was needed. Needless to say I had numerous other things looked at and the bill came to a number that was rather high. So high in fact that it's larger than my yearly income. So guess what's not getting fixed. But anyways. Here's the low down.

I have a cracked exhaust manifold, need a new abs sensor (I expected that, i ripped the old one out wheeling), I need the left side motor mount (also predicted), A new power steering gear box, and lines, oh and did I mention that the rear main is leaking like the titanic apparently? Needless to say, the grand total is $7600 and some change. Maybe hopefully a friendly neighborhood mechanic will help me out with the work for some beer, but otherwise I am SCREWED. I love this truck but it is going to be the death of me.

The motor mount is 100 with rugged rocks.
The rear main is the hard part.. Make sure it's not the oil pan.. I have seen where these will leak..

Search the internet for parts.. No way in hell you have 7k worth of repairs..

Hey man nice build! I went wheeling in a couple places in Idaho springs, great stuff out their! I miss CO so much.

Love that bumper man!

Sorry to hear about the cost of repair....I know that sucks.

I feel for you man, I also sell Rugged rock motor mounts. let me know if I can help in any way! 7600.00 is pretty crazy. Motor mounts are actually pretty easy to do and you should be able to find someone to helo you with those. abs sensor-easy. CRacked exhaust manifold...Doug thorley headers....]:) Rear main seal...lots of labor! but doable...dont give up on it!

So for anyone who is interested, my truck got T-boned on the 20th and was totalled. $5640 in damage to the driver's side. that said I'm going to sell the bumper and shackles, if anyone in the denver area is interested.

Dude, that really sucks! I hope everyone was ok. What are you going to get to replace it?

RoadWarrior, If you want it I will definitely sell it to ya, I was thinking like 350 and shipping would be on you.

As for another ride, I could get an X, the thought has certainly crossed my mind. It would never be the same though, it would be hard to compete with numero uno. The going rate in Denver for a totalled red 2001 Xterra with a 3.3L and a 5 speed is $6800. But at 11mpg with a tail wind of 100mph going down hill it's a hard sale. I'm about to graduate highschool and I'm going to have to move out. My family is losing our house due to some financial stuff regarding jobs and lack of education on the parental front.... GO TO COLLEGE!.... That said my mother is moving back to Texas which is something I'm not going to participate in, so I'm thinking something a little more economical might be a good plan. Not an econobox, but something that sticks to the pavement and gets more MPG's like a WRX. Less smiles per gallon I'm sure though.

Also @Macland. Everyone was fine, it was a drivers side collision in the middle of the B pillar. Both doors, the pillar and the rocker were crushed beyond repair. Fortunately I had my sliders on there, however home made and terrible they looked, they were rock solid and offered some standoff. I'll get you a photo.

You're all good man, I have a guy locally who wants it, he has a 2000 and is putting a 3" from calmini on it, and wants the bumper to make it mean, that said i turned him on to the site, he had no idea it existed, so it shall live on!

As for the sliders, while they provided standoff on me they sent the lexus rx350 that hit me up a little bit and he wound up in the middle of the b pillar rather than the rocker. it was a funky wreck, I sat so high on him that there wasn't really a lot of damage at the face of it, just a lot of replacement.

As for the WRX, if you don't mod it to death and tune it well it's ok. I would keep it nice and reasonable with nothing to crazy, just exhaust and an intake. maybe eventually a turbo swap and some injectors. Here in CO there are thousands of the cars so parts are all over the place.

i live in Texas. i just saw a craigslist post of a 2000 X red 4x4 for $4,300

and bro a wrx is barely going to do 20. you won't like that if you're trying to save money. plus the insurance on a turbo car. ugh. but they do last forever

turbo charger>super charger

I am not going to get a rex... I had one lined up and the guy flaked. Need I point out though that while 20-25mpg isn't super high, it's better than, I don't know, 11 that the X got. Now all that said I have found a suitable replacement for the X... I'm looking tomorrow. You guys are going to hate me if I get it. Also, yes turbos are far and away superior to superchargers although you can't get the same whine out of a turbo... boost problems

well, no one will hate you unless you get a prius lol. oh crap....you're getting a prius :/ and i can live without the supercharger whine because i don't want my engine to get corrosion. superchargers start corroding over time. i mean, it takes 10-15 years before you even realize it, and it's not enough to mess anything up at that point; but it's just the principle.

then I would laugh because his car wouldn't move lol. superchargers draw power from the engine to operate....and a prius doesn't have power to draw from haha. but it would be fun. :)

No no no, I was going to make the ultimate SAS and get an 85 4runner, however it was a bit of a POS. Actually it was a lot of one. So I made a solid call not to buy a project truck in high school with no garage or tools to work on it. besides basic stuff that is. I am getting rather upset though with peoples lack of forthrightness on the proper condition of their junk. I am no seriously considering buying a datsun, more specifically a 280zx that I test drove about a week before my wreck. I am first going to pursue the slightly more expensive one though that is still owned by the original owner and has the digital dash. Straight out of the 80's =D. By the way a blower would work on a prius. they produce 90hp and a normal little s/c 12 or 13 from toyota only takes about 20 to spin up.

ALSO, sold the bumper and shackles for a cool 500. the CL is sick.

so you're still debating on going to 4x4 or just a fun project lol. either way, you'll have fun. and that must be a tiny s/c then haha. most i have seen take between 50-100 hp to go

So here it is guys, I decided to do myself an SAS. I know I'm going to be forever flamed for this but here it goes.

Introducing my new to me 1985 Toyota 4Runner. It's a base model (NO luxuries) with a 22RE and a 5 speed. It also has a solid front axle as it's an 85 model. that's the first year with EFI and the last year with the SFA for all you Toyota noobs.

It's worth mentioning the top comes off. kind of like a Bronco but much cooler.

Now, contrary to the photos it's not black, it's actually a very deep purple color. It does have some slight issues... such as having no interior panels and a very collapsed 30 year old suspension. however it's freakin' gnarly!
