HID Retrofit

Simple question, I'f I get an HID kit, does the bulb have to be the same size? I. E, I'm looking at a 9008 bulb right now, is that fine?

My bad, the bulb is 9006.

You're gonna have to look up which hid bulb will fit. Are you doing projectors?

The 9006 is a single filament bulb, while the 9004/9007* (what we have) is a dual

Can you use a kit designed for a 9006? Yes, anything can be made to work but you'll have a much easier time with one designed for a 9004/9007*.

*I mention both because the FSM calls for 9007, but my truck is a 9004

Yeah Im doing projectors. So try to shoot for a 9005 or 9007?

Check what bulb you have and get the kit for that. If you look close, you'll see that the two bulbs have different pinouts, and the mechanical keying of the housing is different. Ask how I know the 2nd part of that...

First time I bought replacement bulbs, I asked the dude at AZ what I needed, and he said 9007. I actually have 9004. They don't fit at all.

I might be reading something wrong but if you are retrofitting with projectors you'll need to buy the bulb that is the size specified for the projector, and you will purchase a relay made for the Xterra wiring.

Yes, whatever fits the projector us what is needed for the projector.
I don't know a large amount about this, I have only done mine. But I had to mod the headlamp housings to get the projectors to mount. Possibly due to using the D2S projectors. But it was really straightforward. I would think there is a drop in projector for the 9004/9007 bulb hole though.
