I used the power and ground on the domelights (you have to soder or clip onto the "waffle boards" on the light itself otherwise they stay on)and ran that to leds that I installed under the truck, in the wheel wells and grill. When I unlock the or open the doors they come on.

A write up is in order.

My headliner is out, I'm plasti dippping it so I have easy access to the dome and easy wiring for lights. You can't just use the positive and negative for the dome light, it has constant power. You need to wrap a wire around or solder onto the "waffle" board to get the wanted result. I forget which is positive/negative but I did something like this-

Whenever I open the doors or unlock the doors with the key fob the led's come on. I've spent lots of time looking out the window pressing "unlock" and looking at the lights then "lock" to check out the led directionals. :)

The waffle is either positive or negative, I forget. Just look at the switch on the dome light, you will see a "ball" that connects to 3 different plates. I'll try to get a pic of mine tomorrow.

Now can you do this with the wiring in the front of the truck? Where the map lights go? I ask because I pulled my map lights to fit my Wink mirror and I had plans to use that wiring to wire an LED strip to the bottom of the mirror (they would be red) so I can have map lights again, but if I can do this with that wiring in the front.. I think I found a better idea in this.

Also what LEDs did you use?

This was totally my plan, but I never was able to get them to work properly. Definitely need a write up.

Okay, the positive is the metal plate on the left, holding the left side of the bulb. I attached a wire here- (sorry it's out of focus)

The negative you need to use is the big waffle plate on the back-

I ran the two wires along the roof, down the pillar and under the truck to half of the lights. I used teh rear dome to power the other half of the lights. I have these-

In the wheelwells, grill, by the front "skid plate", under the front doors and under the rear bumper. I bought the strips here-http://glowproled.bigcartel.com/ You can buy a big roll of the led strip and solder wires to the desired length of strip as well. I took the lazy route.
