Pulling my rear axle tonight and dropping the diff in the morning, hope to re-gear and install the locker this weekend. Looks like I have plenty of time before gone to break in the new gear sets.

Looks like I have a solid line-up for the week; I may not take a rest day this year.

MONDAY: Hell's Revenge
TUESDAY: Seven Mile Rim
WEDNESDAY: Poison Spider Mesa
THURSDAY: Flat Iron Mesa
FRIDAY: Metal Masher

I'm coming from albuquerque as well, as is Rok. However I won't be leaving until Monday night earliest.
Rok, we're running all the same trails for Tuesday on.

Nice! Too bad we can't get a larger group heading up all at once. I need to get with someone to figure out lodging stuff. I plan on camping, but I don't exactly know where to do it at being that I don't exactly know where the meet up is or any of that stuff. I'm researching it now.

I'll probably head out that Sunday morning at around 10am. That should land me at the condo around 5pm.

I knew that we were running some of the same trails but I didn't think it was all of them.

I did make some changes after I registered though; I started out by signing up for trails that I haven't done before but when I saw that Danny is leading Flat Iron and you may tail gun it, I switched my selection for that day. Flat Iron is an awesome trail and Danny was an great spotter/anti-tipover counterweight last year, I figured that it was worth running two years in a row.

Have you checked out the event forums on the gone website? They lost a bunch of local lodging info this past summer to hackers, but they're working to restore the old content. I think that there are a couple of folks who have spare condo rooms at Rim Village on the southern edge of Moab.

Well hell, if there are a few New Mexico guys going, I really wanna go. My biggest concern at this point (albeit mostly from the wife) is the cost. I figured roughly that fuel will be around $250ish for the whole thing, depending on how many trails I do. I've never been to Utah before, and if I was able to swing the trip, I'd need to find out the most cost effective lodging. I should probably get on beefing up my steering too if I go.

The most cost-effective lodging is probably the in-town camping I.e. canyon lands campground. Condo rooms will run you 250-500 for the week if you stay with someone and depending whether you share a room

You can probably get in on shared condo at Rim Village. In about a month or so you will start seeing postings for available rooms and beds. Whole rooms usually run between $400 and $500 for the week (Sunday through Saturday). If you're willing to share a room with someone, it can be as cheap as $200 for the week ($33/ night). Not sure what campsites go for but it can't be too much less than that.

I was going to camp last year just 'cause I enjoy sleeping outside. I'm glad I decided to go the Rim Village route. Every night becomes part show 'n shine part keg party (bring your own keg). A few people here on XN stayed at the campgrounds and really seemed to enjoy their stay.

Thank you gentlemen, I'll look into those options

Hey Mr. Crue… I have a proposition for ya.

I can see that you’ve been bitten by the mod bug and you want to get together with other like-minded Xterra owners. You’ve obviously noticed the recent flurry around goneMOAB and I can tell you that this is THE event that you don’t want to miss. It will blow your mind, guaranteed.

NMterras has an awesome rig, KevinB has a solid and refined build, CaptainMorgan has plans that will almost certainly put him in the freak agenda soon, and I have my own slacker Sleeper build that can hold it’s own on the tough stuff.

The reality is, that the NM crew are simply average when compared to the big picture. goneMOAB draws Nissan owners from all over the country; you’ll see rigs from all over that have driven hundreds, even thousands of miles, just to wheel some of the best stomping grounds in the country. It’s well worth the six hour drive that we have to get there.

My proposition is this…

Focus on upgrading your steering system (center link, IAB and beefed up tie rods). I have a bunch of stock steering parts that you can send to Grassroots to help out with the core deposits. I also have a set of new AC lift shackles that have been gathering dust for a couple of years. You can have them if you want do a PML on your rig to gain some extra frame clearance. You can also use my modest shop to install it all if you want. If we plan it right, we can probably get NMTerras to come out to lend an extra set of hands. He went through the same process when he built his first gen a couple of years ago.

My guess is that once you get a solid steering system and a mild suspension lift on your rig… you won’t be able to resist the urge to come out to play in Moab this year.

Also as far as cost goes Theres lots of free dispersed camping in the area and most of the town campgrounds will let you pay for a shower here and there. I usually go that route as its usually how I go camping anyway. BLM also has quite a few sites around the area that go for 10 bucks a night.

Has anyone ever stayed out at areaBFE? I think I want to either check that out or Squaw Flat. areaBFE could be fun to just tool around on the rocks out there when not on the GONE trails and it'd be good to support a local rec park. If possible, I'd like to meet up or talk with someone who has camped out in the area before. I don't know. If there was only 2-3 options, it would make it much easier to decide ;)

Rok, your proposition is too good to pass up. I'd love to have more experienced dudes helping me out with my rig. On that note, and if you don't mind, can you link me what you think will be good to get for steering components to get me solid for Moab? Additionally, whatever I would need to buy for the PML? I'm like a little kid right now, this is so awesome that you're willing to help me out. Maybe it's best to PM it to me along with your number so we can set something up

Rok is right, and even if you want to take it easy out there, the green and blue runs are totally worth doing, it seems like every trail well worth the trip

That's awesome to hear. I was thinking about easier runs if I go, but I'll see what the consensus will be after I beef some things up.

Anyone going to mix in some mountain biking at gone this year? I'm still trying to convince the wife this is a family event that will be more fun than Mexico but I am working on it. :-*
I can't go to Moab and not mtb at least The Whole Enchilada and a few others.

My wife would love to wheel Moab. She has an absolute blast every nXm and any wheeling for that matter. If she can get more comfortable with the manual transmission, I'd let her drive. Any wheeling event with this crew is a family event.

I might start up a thread seeing where everyone is planning on camping and maybe we can get a few groups together in different places or something, maybe split some campsites to get it even cheaper or something. If most of these places are first come, first serve camping, there is a possibility that I may just try to camp in a different spot every night ;) Especially since I don't know if I'd feel comfortable leaving my stuff out anywhere while wheeling.

A thread like that may help since that is not the initial intention of this one.
