Looks great! So are you looking at doing tube shock hoops or plate style brackets?
It's going to be tube due to space restraints. I want to keep the rig relatively narrow so the tires aren't hanging out super far.
We would need atleast another 1.5" of width on each side if we did plate style.
Correct me if I'm wrong but is that the stock pitman arm there?
Pictured there is the stock pitman arm but that is already removed. I have a new pitman arm specifically for this purpose. Pics to come soon.
That axle is friggin huge!!! Don't they use stuff like that on $90K rock crawlers? Once the truck is done its going to look awesome, cost 2x the value of the truck and I must say a job well done BUT.... are you increasing the engine horsepower, re-gearing or anything to move that beast? A lot of added weight from stock
This is the first time I have seen such a high quality, beefy system on a stock X.
What you're probably referring to as "stuff like that on $90K rock crawlers?" would be the Reid Inner C's They are a popular choice when building an axle with Dana 60 Kingpin steering components. The housing that accepts the 3rd member actually Uses the Exact same third member as Gen 1 X's all have in the rear from the factory. Is it big? Yup. Is that one of the many reasons we're using it instead of a smaller & weaker Dana 44? Yup.
The truck will be regeared with 5.57 Gears, and we just put headers on it. the power will actually be better with this setup than running 4.9 gears on 33's.
What castor angle you running? Max 3 deg?
Nope, a bit more than that 6 - 7
If I remember correctly, the stock pitman are will be drilled out to accept the new steering linkage but it is also going to be beefed up with some plate around the sides in order to add more strength to it. Steeevo is going to have to chime in on that one to give specifics.
The front suspension setup is going to be basically the same as Steeevo ran on his Pathy for a couple years now. As for power adders, headers are already on and I may be adding a decent cat-back system soon. I have to change out the driver's side valve cover gasket so I will be adding an intake manifold spacer since the intake has to be removed anyways to fix the gasket. I also may be changing out the cams for the ones in a VG30 and may have some head work done at the same time, but that will be later on down the road, if I don't end up going with an engine swap. Again, that will be a couple years from now. It's got the snorkel and K&N filter and once the airbox is sealed up, that should free up a couple ponies as well. May be adding an oil cooler as well in the near future. And it is being regeared. Going with Nismo 5.571s front and rear with an air locker in the rear and LSD up front for now.
To maximize uptravel while keep a low ride height we have to ditch the stock pitman arm and replace it with a fabricated pitman arm.. another new product you'll see available soon.
We've only made a handfull of them and it hasn't been advertised yet.
There are many other cam options as well, I'm actually building a 3.3 for the pathfinder. I'll probably start a thread here for that when that project gets farther which willbe right after this x is done.
a few pics in case someone hasn't seen my pathfinder:
