hey guys, figured i would do my first official write up!\
this is something i wanted for months until i finally figured out how to do it, and it looks great!
i wanted my Fog lights to be able to come on by them selfs, without the head lights on. i used a current tester to find the right wires, so this is a DIY write up on how to splice your fog light switch (steering column switch w/ blinker thingy)
tools needed:
t-taps, or anything that taps one wire into the other
screw driver
wire strippers
electrical tape
down time of about 1 hour
you must have fog lights for this to work...
1.) Remove the steering column cover. It is held together by screws from the bottom.
2.) On the headlight switch side of the column is a mess of wires. Within the mess you'll see
three connectors that we care about at the moment.
- One has 7 wires, one of them being red with a black stripe.
- There is a 4 wire connector with a blue/red striped wire
- There is a 2-wire connector with a red/black striped wire. The red/ black wire should be running between the 7 and 2 wire connectors.
3.) Disconnect the red/black wire from the 7-wire connector, close to the connector.
It should now be connected only at the 2-wire connector end.
4.) Connect the free end of the red/black wire to the blue/red wire in the 4-wire connector using one of the many available tap connectors (Radio Shack #64-3052 for example).
5.) Tape up the remaining stub of the red/black wire.
6.) Reassemble the column.
here's a picture of what that means.
it should look like this (really old picture)
throw some 3000K HID's in there so they actually work as FOG lights, and youll be set!
