As the title says, Who's had them and what do you think of them? A buddy and I want to rebuild a diesel and we are contemplating the first gen 89-93 cummin or a 00-02 7.3 we like the price tags of the dodges better and we can literally do everything ourselves. It will be a tow vehicle for both our projects, he has a track 96 talon and well I will have my prerunner once I pull the trigger in the mean time though I'll dump money into the diesel. We want this thing to last for ever, and literally I mean both our lives, we are splitting everything down the middle so cost really isn't a factor. Right now we are learning towards the old dodge's single cab square body.

yeah. so you like the engine of the 7.3 but the old body more? which one do you think would be more fun or challenging to work on? or just more fulfilling? that's the big question i would say. to me, it's like "do i buy a first or second gen x" you know? they both have their good and bad points, but what do you feel would be the most enjoyable? personally, anything cummins puts their name on should be solid.

my buddy has an 89 or 90, and up until recently it has been an amazing truck. 300,000 miles and the first troubles just popped up, which was something radiator related. My only complaint about the older ones is they didnt have an intercooler from the factory and that charge pipe and the intake air is hot, there has to be a large HP loss from that. I am sure it could be resolved easily enough though.

Any and all cummins motors are gnarly. The truck it's in not so much. That said, totally worth it
