Dual Battery Set-up Equipment

I know this thread does not fit exactly in this subforum, but none other fit into electrical category either.

I figure this is a universal question for any sort of vehicle that has a dual battery set-up.

I am looking at all the parts I will need for this endeavor. Keep in mind, I am not much of a gearhead, much less super savvy at electrical stuff.

Things needed:
  • Red wire sheath
  • Black wire sheath
  • nutsert tool(?)
  • Dual battery manager (the "switching" system- either manual or electronic)
  • Dual battery monitor (i.e. monitor amps to make sure not go over or under)
  • 2nd battery
  • Misc wires for the rest of the wiring crap
  • 2nd Battery tie-down

Companies I have found that have some of this stuff are:
Ironman 274Amp Dual battery kit ($335): http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2265
vs.
Ironman 140Amp Dual battery kit ($275):
http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2264

National Luna Intelligent Solenoid - Dual Battery Isolator ($145): http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=544
PLUS
National Luna - Dual Controller ($90): http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=551
OR
Painless Performance 250 Amp Dual Battery Current Control System ($230.57): http://www.painlesswiring.com/webcatalog/largeview.php?SearchField=40102

If use Luna, need battery cable kit
Painless Performance kit ($149.52): http://www.painlesswiring.com/webcatalog/largeview.php?SearchField=40100 includes terminals, 15' red, 3' black, etc.

Additional things to keep in mind:
-Placement: keep under hood in engine bay using ChrisHaynes model (move steering fluid container) vs.
Putting in back somewhere (considering behind driver seat on floor when I remove rear seats for fridge)

If under hood, must fabricate battery tray to fit 2 side by side.
vs.
fabricate protective box for inside cabin

Iron Man 4x4 275amp kit.
Site sponsor.

I'm pretty sure Daniel can get the non motorized one just email him. Price should be very comparable.

Luna - this is the old standard, Have not heard anything to bad about it.

Hellroaring - read some good stuff about these guys. Depends on what type of battery system you want.

Go with perfect switch if you want cocky owners and pay out your butt. I don't know if its as good as they say.
Perfect switch

ith a lot of these you can mix and match, battery monitor with a different battery manager.

I have the iron man system just installed it earlier this week, I like it so far, good instructions. Can't say anything about durability so far.

Some other stuff you may need is all the mounting stuff for the battery depending on location. Also depending on the kit and location might need some more wiring. I had to get some more smaller gauge wires for the switch and monitor.

Or you could just cut to the chase and get the dual ego mod like Mr. Haynes did...double the power, half the brain. ;)

I spoke to Kodiac extensively to get information and help. He does have everything you need but the dual battery plate is designed for the Odyssey batteries. I've got DieHard Platinum's and they don't fit so that killed the sale for me. I bought the TJM Dual battery management system which comes with everything you need/listed but is designed for under the hood installation. You can get the cables from HD if you want to relocate the 2nd battery like I did.

Side note: I do have a spare Blue Sea 2 battery switch if you need one. Never been used.

^What does the switch look like?

I do not have the funds for this particular endeavor, but I figured it is better to do the research ahead of time to know how much I will spend.

I'm actually heavily leaning toward the luna power pack since so far from what I am seeing, it is just as cost-effective vs. buying 2nd battery (or 2 whole new ones) + wires + monitor + manager = adds up to a lot, too.

I looked at Kodiak, but there was no price listed on the website from what I saw and I cannot send emails and stuff while at work (= limited ability to call/contact vendors).

How much is the TJM set up?

Battery Switch This is the extra I have. I was going to use it for a 3rd battery on a trailer but that will be down the road a bit.

Kodiac can cost up a grand. It's a very nice system and is customized for your needs. He'll talk to you to find out what it is you want to use it for and build a setup for you.

TJM dual battery system cost about $350. But I got the management system rather than just a Dual system.

I'm building my own kit, same as Kodiak Industries/Dirty Parts kit, I figured out all the wiring without having to buy the kit, this is the kit I will end up with:http://www.4wheelparts.com/Electric....aspx?t_c=72&t_s=12&t_pt=3691&t_pn=WNP100-105 I'm using a OTRATTW switch instead of the old toggle style!
