So I was driving to the walmart yesterday and saw this when I came down the road and of course I had to pull off and watch. It was a time trial event and all kinds of cars were there competeing (even though I missed most). Here is a few clips I filmed and the S2000 won the event only because in the end the silver corvette bumped a cone and was given a DNF.

It was a sanctioned scca autocross event. Not an illegal street race. Hence you can hear the announcer a little in the background.

Gotcha....we've seen some races with similar setups around here but the catch was it wasn't approved/authorized so that's why I mentioned it.

Glad its a legal event.

I do love a good sanctioned autocross, nothing better than watching someone run there DD for lap times. And in some classes the only real difference is a set of dedicated tires.

Yeah and I'm sure the guy with the $80k vette was sad when he lost to an s2000 with is less than half the value. lol

Pretty cool, I'd like to see something like that sometime!

Yeah it's cool to watch and is free I am going to try and make it to their next one as well. Maybe sit on top the X it would be a great view haha.

SCCA's Delta Region does their Autocross events in the parking lot at Zephyr Stadium in New Orleans. I've been meaning to go out there and watch, but I always remember too late.

For us Nashville people, they used to have Autocross events at Two Rivers Pkwy, just short of Opry Mills. No clue if they still do. I do know that they have them just about every weekend out at the Speedway.

Love me some autocross...used to race a modded 240z back in the day. I will NOT, however, be ragging my s2000 in such a manner (although hooray for the guy who did and won!)

Yeah man I found out they are doing it again there in about 3 weeks so I'm going to try and catch more of it next time. Make me want a sports car. I drove a newer acura TL the other day and before I knew it I was driving 90mph on the free way and it felt like 40.

They have events like that around here, too- at the Fairgrounds parking lot and the Idaho Center lot. I enjoy stopping by to watch. Sometimes they have some really nice cars whipping through the course.

Awww, your southern accents are so cute! :p (kidding)

Autocross sounds like fun Ive never had a chance to do it though. Around here we have a rather strange sort of racing... or so Ive been told. Apparently true Figure 8 racing isnt all that common elsewhere.
Open/unlimited class is fun to watch, It has 2 rules: 10" wide tires, no fuel injection.
it creates some wild racing with between 400-800hp cars beating and banging for the lead.

The tracks are 1/5- 1/4 mile long to try to keep the speed down to under 100mph incase of the eventual intersection collision.
