Hey guys. Life took a weird couple of turns. I'm thinking about trying to restart this project. I now have a second car, so can push the limits of how far away from drivability I can take my currently running xterra.
A couple of notes. I did make the rest of the transmission videos, but they progressively got worse in quality as I got deeper into the car. Not enough hands. In that time anyway, another gentleman popped up on YouTube with a much better tranny removal video. If you look up "400$ Nissan xterra" his vids will pop up. Lots of useful info there (tranny drop, remove cats, rear mail seal, head gasket, etc)
There is one road block that I am running into. I had a technician tell me that if i do this conversion, if I do not reflash the computer, the car will be put into limp mode in four wheel low. He said that car sees the difference in speed and rpm and will think the tranny is damaging itself because it does not know the transfer case is in the driveline.
If I'm going to do this I want the car to be fully functional, and I want to be able to pass smog too ( in cali, check-engine light means auto-fail)
has anyone done this and had no problems in 4 wheel low with the 2wd computer/
has anyone reflashed their computer (I assume the tcm or pcm) to make it work like a regular 4wd/
does anybody know if you can simply plug and play the computers from car to car? One is supercharged the other is not
