Cruise control stopped working.

The cruise control stopped working on my 2001. 180K miles and all electronics good. The on/off button works and light comes on in dash but the coast/set button does nothing. Couldn't find a fuse for the cc. The button cluster doesn't look serviceable and it's too close to the air bag. I don't want to deploy it for fear that replacing it would cost more that the vehicle is worth and I don't to wear an adult diaper. Texted an out of state mechanic buddy and he thinks the brake light switch may be the culprit. What say ye???

If I remember correctly, there's two switches on the brake pedal assembly. One going to the booster rod that triggers the lights and another one on the upper part of the arm that is the sensor for the cruise control. Check there first

Had the same problem on my 2001, the pedal stop fell apart. It’s on the brake pedal, kinda hard to get to. If it’s gone there will be a hole and the cruise control switch won’t be contacted when the brake is at rest. Therefore it thinks you are applying the brake which would turn off the cruise. Here’s a link to replacement part, but I just put in a bolt and nut.
