Compared to alot of the sasd trucks ive seen with coilovers, link, exocages my wee little leaf sprung ride is pretty boring. I love it though even Im always working on the damn thing.the next thing im saving up for are beadlocks but im not sure if im just going with diybeadlocks.com weld on kit or trying to find some spacers cheap to runn h1 double beadlocks which i would prefer but harder to do.

Thanks for the link Rattfink, Ive done a few sets of DIY beadlocks before and I really like them. For those intereted I found a company that is a Pirate4x4 vendor that will do any custom design for $200 plus $40 dollars for anticoning rings which arent required but are needed to properly torque the wheel down.

We just ordered a set for my father-in-laws blazer and the craftsmenship is amazing.
I think they were a great fathers day /bday present.

Well after a particularly rough holiday season my father-in-law tells me hes ordering a winch for Clyde for my upcoming bday. Im super excited but I have some questions on the mounting plate. Lets talk overkill here so assume its a 12,000lbs winch what would be the best way to graft it to the frame?

IMAG0102.jpg

My first thought was to remove the lower bar that ties the frame together and weld some 1/4" plate flat along hte top of the frame rails and cap the end of frame rails with a fresh piece of 2x.250 wall tube. The disadvantage would be all the torque is placed on the bolts themselves and Im not sure I like that idea.

The second thought is to weld a piece of 1/4 over the gap in the center of my bumper and bolt it on through the back. The downside here is it would make maintaining the winch a huge pita and it would be really difficult to remove.

Soo thoughts or or some other ideas?

Yeah I told my FIA that but he still thinks its neccesary. Course the last time I had this thing covered in mud and weighed it she tipped the scales at 5200lbs so Its not as overkill as you might think. Espececially once you factor the terrain we wheel.

I just have a winch plate welded to the frame rails, used it several times with no issues, and 12k will probably be good seeing as you like to get stuck in mud lol
