Hey all,

Last year i brought my iPad and used an app called MotionX GPS to track my location and map out the trails. Since then the app has been improved so that you can broadcast your location to others and they can see your location as well.

So I am wondering if any nxm attendees have this app? If so, and you want to try this feature out please let me know.

I have an android so cannot add to the app you are speaking of. However with regards to apps for the truck I can recommend Torque when used in addition with the blue tooth OBD-II adapter. its great for monitoring the ECU and tracking things form yoru iphone or android phone. I imagine mudchet could even use it on your ipad since you have it docked in the truck. You can check and clear engine codes as well. Pretty good tool to have when you want to know things on the fly. Now if you don't have a smartphone or prefer not to use apps in the field, there is a field engine check you can do anywhere. I don't know the full details of the code and if anyone knows of a thread about it, please pass along. But when I was at ecxc this past summer, a buddy of mine broke the ABS cable. This sent an error to the computer that prevented the truck from engaging in 4x4. Although it still worked, the broken ABS cable was programmed in the computer to not engage the 4x4. So this guy comes over and does a combination code sequence in the truck and all kinds of things starting happening. What i remember is turn key to "ON" position, depress door adjar button 10 times, one of the smaller gauges starts going haywire, wipers go 4 times low then 4 times high, then he turns the 4x4 to LO then back to HIGH....

Thats about all I could remember since the only manual codes I knew were rather or not to turn the horn on with the remote. Now unfortunately it did not work with my friends truck. But it worked someone else's that day and I was told this operation was a way to clear codes or reset the computer when not convenient to get to a nissan dealership. If anyone is interested in smartphone gadgets, look up the Torque on youtube. If anyone knows more about this field check method, please pass the details.

Does that work on an Android? I ask cause I just stepped into the 21st century with my new phone and don't really know about what apps work with what phone. D@mn how did we manage before cell phones.

Yes this works with both platforms. However you should know that it costs $5 for the app, then you need the ELM OBD-II adapter, blue tooth. I picked it from Amazon for $25. A couple of quick things to know when you get set up. App will not connect to blue tooth if you have pandora on your device. I know its weird, but found a forum somewhere that explained it to me when I couldn't get it to connect and after I uninstalled it, reader and app fired right up. The last thing to remember is, although you can set profiles on the app and do some crazy monitoring, you constantly have to update the profile with new fuel readings, mileage...etc. every time you disconnect it form your traveling. In essence, I only use it when traveling off road or long distance towing to get readings. Its fun to use but limited in functionality. Basically a monitoring tool with the ability to clear codes. The next step for me will be to get the Bullydog GT Tuner to tweak computer controls. Maybe you should look into it. www.autoanything.com has been one of my favorite sites for parts. They are like Khols, always a better price at checkout and there are always coupon codes floating around on web somewhere.

If anyone is going to nXm and wants the trail data from last year please PM me. i think I have tracks for trails, 26, 27, 16, and whatever else we ran last year. I believe I can send via email and you can load them onto your device.

I'll probably need that. It's for MotionX? I can have Jess navigate while I drive.

Cool. Please let me know if you use this during nXm, I am dying to try out the "Share Location" feature that allows one person to track another's current location.

Better to have it on the phone or tablet?

I use iPad for easy viewing. I use a Ram Mount to hold the iPad.

While that holder does appear to have more uses, and be better looking than the RAM mount, it also appears to have a higher maintenance cost than the RAM. Plus, I don't think my wife would appreciate if I came home with that holder in the truck one night.

I wouldn't appreciate it either.

But you could convince her that Prime was a new bending unit for her.

So.. Not available on android.. Any recommendations for the Android iOS?

I use maverick. I've tracked all my trails back home with it. Can edit waypoints in google earth and look at / edit all the tracks too.

I'm sure there are better ones out there, but thats what I use.
