I really don't even know why I am posting this other that I was doing a little reading on old Nissan engines and got curious. (honestly I BARELY know what engines are in my own X and titan lol) How much difference in the frame and engine bay between the two? Only time I saw a patrol (vehicle ) was in Iraq and I didn't get to play with it. Anyway, I was reading where a guy swapped in a VH45 from a 90 Q45 into his patrol, 8-10 psi, claiming to be close to 550hp. To date, has ANYONE engine swapped a gen 1/1.5 X (besides the diesel one)? I know this topic comes up often but I don't recall actually seeing anyone do it.

I know that other swaps have been done, but I cant think of who or what engine they dropped in (Other than Ronin's). I wanna say people have done measurements on dropping a VK56 (titan), and it's right on the edge of being able to fit. What I can't remember is if they measured on the G1 or the G2.

The G1 came with a 4cyl option (KA24), so a V8 is not out of the question, but it's a matter of finding the right one. Luckily the G1 is a fairly simple beast, so the wiring wouldn't be as difficult as with the massively computerized G2.

There's a guy on CX by the name of Graybeard that swapped an LS6 into a first gen. But the LS, being a pushrod motor, will fit into damn near anything. People put them in Miatas, for gobble's sake. Fitting a DOHC V8 like a VK56 or a VH45 requires a bit more room. But the electronics play nicer because Nissan likes to use similar engine management across the board. I can't imagine the effort that went into making a GM engine play nice with a Nissan body harness.

I recall that being a vendor that swapped in the Titan V8 into a Gen 2.

It was Calmini that did it.

Yea, from what I understand, it was a complete pain in the arse to do. The motor fit with little adjustments but it was the electronics of it all that was a nightmare.

I've always been told that a VK56 was a farily easy from in terms of fitament because they're all (Xterra, Frontier, Titan, Armada, Pathfinder, NV) based on the same F-Alpha platform.
