Our new (to us) VW Jetta TDI, the YETTI. The price was right. My wife’s parents didn’t want it, so now we have it. Trouble is, it was absolutely disgusting inside. My wife’s uncle had been living in the car for nearly a year while his paperwork for work abroad was finalized. And he vaped in This thing. Boy, did he vape. Lots of vape. Pro tip: if you must suck on a douche flute, don’t do it in your car. All that nasty vape schmoo that gets exhaled after a tour through your lungs, gets into everything; the carpets, ventilation system, headliner, seats, steering wheel, everything. And finding a THC cartridge didn’t help. LOL! But that’s neither here nor there. It just made for a rigorous, intense deep clean of this car inside and out.
And after my wife drove the car a couple days after I was done, she was amazed at the transformation – not just because the car looks and feels clean, but it smells amazing now. And like I said, the price was right.
Gratuitous parking lot pic at Autozone. Picked up a new battery, a couple of filters, and some oil.
It starts. Time to detail the (literal) crap out of this thing. There wasn’t so much in the way of trash as there was a desperate need to deep clean the carpets and every other hard and textile surface of the car.
Seats out. This is the way.
Luckily, the rear seats folded up and out of the way, so they didn’t need to come out for cleaning.
Thank goodness they are leather. They cleaned up nicely. They were completely dull and faded looking before cleaning.
I cleaned these carpets until I no longer saw this in my dirty water container.
Cleaned up engine bay.
And since the oil was low, and no doubt this car spent its life being lubricated with whatever is in the barrel at Jiffy Lube, I treated this Eurotrash car to some proper oil, just for it.
Last thing was to let it marinade with an ozone generator for about 12 hours. Ozone is what makes the air smell fresh after a rainstorm. It has a deodorizing effect. But to be effective, you need to rid the vehicle of what was causing the smells in the first place, which I spent hours doing the day before.
The rest was just the usual things. Clean and treat the dash, windows, the floor mats, etc. But with only 72K miles, it beats our Saturn, which has 194K miles. But now my wife can drive this vehicle around a few years while I slowly do some work to keep our old college car running. Who knows? My son is only 3 years from driving age, so we might let him drive it around after I make sure it is safe for him.
