What have you done for your X?

Test Drive
Got new headlights assemblies and promptly took them apart and installed Halo rings in them. Put them back together after painting the outer shell a sexy black gloss. then finished my X's day by installing some banging HID Bi Xenons. Put it all together. Excellent

Well my Xterra was feeling a bit neglected the past couple years. During my last oil change they informed me that my lower Ball joints were shot. I've been getting lots of popping sounds up front.

So with my tax refund this year, she's having all of these things repaired/replaced

Both Lower Control Arms
Idler Arm
Power steering hose - slow & steady leak
Replacing Calmini Shocks with new Bilstein 5100 series (broken bushings already on the Calmini's and only 15k miles). If the bushings are replaceable - I'm willing to sell these cheap LOL

Possibly 3 more Goodyear Duratracs (one was replace last month under road hazard warranty). And the rest of my tires are a bit choppy and loud now. Still good tread - if anyone in North Texas is interested? I can sell them cheap, probably only will sell two of them. My spare is over 10 years old and I should keep one of these and swap it right? LOL. 31x10.5x15

After the work was done to replace the control arms the shop worked with me in reindexing my Calmini Torsion bars. And as they were beginning that project, only 2 turns into removing the bolt when it fell out. Needless to say the previous shop stripped the bolt and could not get my lift up any higher because of it. The new shop bought new bolts and installed them for just the price of the bolts. Now I have the full lift in the front. I had Firestone realign it again and for the first time since the lift was install it aligned all green everywhere. I'm so pleased.

Well that's it for now. I hope. LOL

Put off changing my fuel filter till it was a big problem. It demanded to be replaced today. Glad that's all that was wrong.

Feedback, advice, criticism (constructive) is welcome. I had a modified 1998 Dodge Avenger for ten years before I got this XTerra. So I'm learning off-road/SUV stuff almost daily.

Here's my old Avenger.

Wow dude, you did an amazing job and brightening everything back up. I like all your storage choices. You should probably start a build thread so people can get some good ideas from what you have done.

Changed the oil on the Xterra last night and switched over to Amsoil. I was running Royal Purple before, and the morning before the oil change I put some Sea Foam into the crank case (It's about a 15 mile round-trip from work to home). Before I drained the oil, I noticed that I have a very small, very slow leak where the engine connects to the torque converter(?), or the transmission, it's right where the front crossbar is under the engine. Checked the oil level prior to draining and it was good. I probably should have taken a picture of the leak for reference. Anyways, drained the oil and my mind was blown how dirty it was in the drain pan. I completely cleaned off the surfaces where the leak had gotten on and finished the oil change.

I've never had a fluid spot under my truck, and I do look for them regularly. I get under my truck about every other month or so and haven't noticed it before, but I have noticed where that spot on the cross bar seemed to have a slight saturated look a few months ago. I don't think the Sea Foam had anything to do with the leak, and logic would tell me this is maybe a winter thing? In the sense that with it being colder, everything shrinks a bit (lol) so some slow leaks may develop and seal back up when it's warm. I'm going to get back under there tonight and look at it. Like I said, I've never had any oil drip spots, and my oil level has always been good so I'm not super concerned about this. Any tips though are mega appreciated!

As long as it's not a GUSH I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just keep an eye on your oil levels. If it starts to puddle, then it needs fixing. Not sure if it's a 2 piece seal on the 3.3 or not. If it is, all you have to do is drop the crossmember and the oil pan. Drift the top half out with a punch and replace the bottom half in the pan.

If it's a 1 piece seal, the driveline has to come off the back of the engine to replace it.

Thanks for the advice Prime. It doesn't seem to be that bad, yet, but I'm thinking it's been like that for a little while now. I'll give my mechanic a call to get a quote just incase.

Nice!

I got the 49"x82". I didn't need anything huge. Just something to sit under in the rain while fishing. Plus will be nice to use at the beach too.

Not the X but the trailer got a new pair of shoes, falkin wilderness AT. enough people raved about them that I gave them a shot. Six ply truck tires should hold up pretty well.

Replaced my old worn Goodyear Duratrac's with brand new ones... :) I used the best one to replace my spare tire that was over 10 years old,

I have 2 tires that are still good enough to sell, if anyone is interested let me know?

31x10.50x15 25k miles (approx) I'd guess someone could get another 10k out of them, they were loud from my front end having bad shocks and lower control arms. But they work and hold air... Price Cheap (negotiable) how much would you want to pay? Pics upon request, or look at my last post in here I have a picture or two of them.
