So I'm into the replacing speakers stage of my build while I have door panels off and the replacement driver door I bought had a infinity kappa setup in it with a 'driver'? model in the door that both the 6.5" and the tweeter were hooked to. The rest of the doors have stock speakers in them. So should I do the rest of the speakers with infinity kappa or some other 6.5" component setup? It's a Pioneer app radio head unit with single 10" JL sub. Also, should I run a separate amp for door and other speakers?

I'm a big Infinity audio fan. My whole truck is Infinity. I've got 6.5" reference components in the front, reference 6x9s in the back, a 5-channel Infinity amp and a single JL 10" in a sealed box. I didn't go with the Kappa series because I happen to think that the new Kappa stuff sounds too tinny on the tweeters.

I actually got the tweeter for the front component set in the factory location (in the pillar) with a little modification. I ran new wires to the tweeters from the Infinity crossover and to the door speaker through the boot. As a matter of fact, I've abandoned all of the factory speaker wire in the truck and reran it all w/ 16ga oxygen free copper speaker wire.

Amplification is key. You need an amp that has the right power and ohm load characteristics for your speakers. That's why I chose the Infinity amp. It's pushing 75w @ 4ohms. The Infinity Reference speakers I have are 3 ohm. So I'm getting about 85w to them. And then 300w into 2 ohms on the sub.

You really can't go wrong with any of the big name brands. They have been around for ages for a reason. There are some great rarely heard of brands out there but unless you are REALLY into audio then it probably doesn't matter. I would say to stay away from anything they sell at Wal-Mart but the other day I saw a pretty nice set of Pioneer speakers, not even their lowest series?

I have never been a fan of Pyle, Jensen, Sony xpload, mtx... Although, even those companies have come a long way over the years.

I have always been a huge fan of kicker speakers and Pioneer head units, especially when Pioneer had the premier series. Love kicker k series. Not rich enough for q series.

If ya got the scratch, snatch up some focal utopia be. A pair of their No. 7s run about $6k. I don't even want to know what their ultimas cost.

Infinity kappas are good, may as well finish the X off with them since you already have a pair. JL is very nice as well.

Thanks for the input guys, ended up snagging some JL C2-650 as well as C2-690tx and a JX360 4ch amp. I only had the one infinity in the door and the crossover looked pretty old so I decided to get all new.

I have ran jl infinity and alpine over the years. Enjoyed all of them. The jl's i had were about $400 a pair and sounded amazing in my mazda. The infinity speakers were about 170 a pair and sounded good in my system with a JL 13w6v2, but they lacked low end on their own. I put some in my wifes mdx last fall and they sound much better than stock even on the factory head unit. When i put speakers in my xterra (had no speakers and broken radio when i bought it) I put some alpine components in the front running on an $80 sony head unit because i was on a budget and planned to upgrade. No more than i drive it it sounds good enough. My tires are so loud I cant be bothered to worry about sound quality in it. I bought some matching 6x9's for the rear and ended up selling them and putting some $20 walmart specials back there because i couldnt hear them from the front anyway.
