Hello X'ers!
I retired from Chrysler in Kokomo, Indiana, in 2008. I was an industrial electrician. Now living since 2009 in SW Florida.
Last month, I was getting the oil changed on my 2020 Dodge Journey with 13,800 miles and the dealer offered to buy it- I slept on it, then went to Carmax and sold it to them for $2000 more than I paid or it- I ended up with about $7500 cash, after the extended warranty was refunded. My plan to just buy a used car with the money, turned into a battle- two of the cars I wanted to look at sold before I could drive to the dealer. I do remember how hard it was for me to find a nice used Honda Element in 2019-
I think this makes six cars for me since 2017- II like working on cars ( but no more engine overhauls)- - Maybe, about 90 cars now since my first one in 1966.
Anyway, I was went to this dealer near me to looking at a 2002 Ford Sport Trac (the pictures lied, haha) and I saw this Xterra. The accident bit me! The closer I got the better it looked- Do you think 137k miles is low for this age? I couldn't have found this SUV , if I was actually looking for it- that's Murphys law, I guess.
I paid $5500 and the Carfax they printed out showed the timing belt was replaced at 90K miles- Its been in Florida since 2008. I saw very little rust underneath. They are repairing a couple items before I pick it up- The A/C is not worn out, because the first 60% of the mileage was up in NY state.
My good friend at my old Chrysler plant, plans to retire at 62 next year and he has been looking at Xterras near him- no luck yet. All he talks about is getting an Xterra and fixing it up- for his big retirement adventure trip out west. He has only been looking at the 2nd gen ones.
The dealer spent some money replacing cracked plastic fascia- does the unpainted black look OK?
I found out that Honda Element interiors were well known for being destroyed by dogs. I didn't see any pet damage here.
I think I did OK, for an accidental find. I prefer the more old school simplicity of this design.
There are a lot of Xterra forums- I landed here.
