The accidental 2001 Xterra purchase

Hello X'ers!
I retired from Chrysler in Kokomo, Indiana, in 2008. I was an industrial electrician. Now living since 2009 in SW Florida.
Last month, I was getting the oil changed on my 2020 Dodge Journey with 13,800 miles and the dealer offered to buy it- I slept on it, then went to Carmax and sold it to them for $2000 more than I paid or it- I ended up with about $7500 cash, after the extended warranty was refunded. My plan to just buy a used car with the money, turned into a battle- two of the cars I wanted to look at sold before I could drive to the dealer. I do remember how hard it was for me to find a nice used Honda Element in 2019-
I think this makes six cars for me since 2017- II like working on cars ( but no more engine overhauls)- - Maybe, about 90 cars now since my first one in 1966.
Anyway, I was went to this dealer near me to looking at a 2002 Ford Sport Trac (the pictures lied, haha) and I saw this Xterra. The accident bit me! The closer I got the better it looked- Do you think 137k miles is low for this age? I couldn't have found this SUV , if I was actually looking for it- that's Murphys law, I guess. ;)
I paid $5500 and the Carfax they printed out showed the timing belt was replaced at 90K miles- Its been in Florida since 2008. I saw very little rust underneath. They are repairing a couple items before I pick it up- The A/C is not worn out, because the first 60% of the mileage was up in NY state.
My good friend at my old Chrysler plant, plans to retire at 62 next year and he has been looking at Xterras near him- no luck yet. All he talks about is getting an Xterra and fixing it up- for his big retirement adventure trip out west. He has only been looking at the 2nd gen ones.
The dealer spent some money replacing cracked plastic fascia- does the unpainted black look OK?
I found out that Honda Element interiors were well known for being destroyed by dogs. I didn't see any pet damage here.
I think I did OK, for an accidental find. I prefer the more old school simplicity of this design.
There are a lot of Xterra forums- I landed here.

Welcome from Hawaii. While I’m new to this forum I’ve had my 2002 xterra since well 2002. I love the gen 1 look and black is the best trim. That is a nice looking truck. Love that color!

Welcome! That's a helluva find, especially in the current market.

I bought my 03 three years ago, with close to the same mileage, and she's been great.

They are very tough, reliable, and simple old rigs that can take a beating, and won't let you down.

Thank you all- I am glad I landed in this forum- since 2014 I have been active on the HHR, Avalanche, Honda Element, Dodge Journey/minivan forums. The Element was a bit dangerous to drive, IMO, due to the subpar cockpit visibility and high center of gravity/short wheelbase. No problems like that so far with the Xterra.
The dealer told me today when I picked it up, that he thinks it was a Florida snowbird's condo car for almost 10 years-- stored in a garage in the off season out of the sun. The last two owners didn't invest much in maintenance- It will need new tires- DOT code says they were made in 2011. They have flat spots- and a new set of shocks. Coincidentally, my wife's car is a 2019 Nissan Kicks, with 30K miles, bought on May of 2020 for $13500, when the car rental companies were dumping cars in Florida. re there any tires that would be good for an extra 1 mpg? I'm going to have to get a job, to buy a set of tires ad new shocks- no more $300 set tires, like I bought from Walmart 2 years ago and then had them mounted myself for $20/tire.

The upside of the X is that as long as you keep the timing belt maintenance up and do all the other recommended stuff, it'll be in your life for as long as you want it to be.

For fuel mileage and longevity and a surprising amount of traction given what they are, the Michelin LTX MS2 tires do amazingly. I loved them on my truck and wife's Suburban. The only reason I don't run them on my truck now is I don't drive it enough to wear the tires out so I run the Coopers on my truck and rotate them to the Xterra every couple years.

I like to go to www.copart.com website and check the wrecked vehicles- Obviously, these Xterras were running when they got damaged- Gives you an idea of how long they can stay on the road with good care and maintenance. This baby has a clear title-
