Hi, i have a 2004 XE 4x4 with 126,000 miles on it. With the help of a friend, i recently changed the Valve cover gaskets along with the Plenum Gasket. after putting everything back together my X started to idle really rough in drive while stopping at lights, stop signs, etc. also it feels extremely sluggish up until about 30-35 MPH then it all of a sudden regains power. its putting out codes related to the Mass airflow sensor. but the sensor was not touched during the work and everything worked fine before the gasket changing. Did we miss or improperly place a vacuum line or possible put a crack in one? ive looked at everything and cant find any cracks or breaks. has anyone else experienced this?

i took it in and It turns out the O2 sensor wires were crossed and interfering with each others signal. My X is running perfect again! thank you!

I was reading your post and was thinking "this literally sounds like the exact same issue I had" except mine wasn't throwing any codes. My O2 sensor wires were crossed as well, except it took me a couple months to get it sorted out lol, mostly because I was stubborn about taking it in. Glad it got sorted out for you

Interesting! i was told that it was actually a common thing that happens. Im glad it turned out to be such a simple fix, and not an expensive one! i couldn't let it go months! it was keeping me up at night knowing that i had something wrong with my vehicle. and every time i drove it.... it drove me.... crazy!! haha.

this is the problem I am having right now except no codes are showing. Will have to take a look at o2 sensors today. Also is there a write up on replacing the valve cover gaskets never done it on a 3.3 engine.

3.3 is pretty simple, the hard part is removing the upper intake. 5 bolts along the top, two hoses in back (save yourself the trouble and just cut them), couple of electrical in back, and the intake hose. Might be forgetting a small detail, but those are the highlights.

Check the X 101 thread; I have a pic of the plugs there. If I can remember when I get to a real computer, I'll post the pic here too
