Hey. newer to posting in this forum but ive read a bunch of the threads and have gotten some great feedback.
i have an 04 xe fully armored, 2" body lift 3" suspension lift, and numerous other mods that dont matter for this question.

I have the xe in dash cd changer (non rockford fosgate) and i want to swap it for a 2002 se 6 disc in dash cd changer. I want to know if the connection is an easy unplug and replug? I am looking to do the aux input add on for this radio and put it in my xterra. not going to do all the work and teardown if the harness is not universal.

Thanks everyone. i saved a write up on doing the mod from 686cody686 and kowpeki.

The RF radio doesn't have a internal amp, therefore changing radios will be very far from plug and play. You're better off just getting a aftermarket radio instead.

The Rockford Fosgate SE radio, uses a amp that is directly behind it and is seperate to produce the sound for the speakers. The XE radio has a amp built into it. In other words if you plug the SE radio in to your X,( which I can't imagine would have the same plugs) you wont hear anything. In other other words as roninjiro taught us anything is possible with our X's its just a matter of how hard you want to work.

Honestly, you're much better off just buying an aftermarket stereo. The RF isn't all it's cracked up to be, and it won't work without an additional amp, either the RF amp that it was plugged into in the Xterra it came from or an aftermarket amp.

I have to agree here... I paid 80.00 including shipping on my Dual with bluetooth... For those that have a iPhone.. That is the best thing EVER! no cables :)
and I think for 30 more I bought the Bluetooth mic for hands free... Im really happy with that buy ;)

If your looking for something to fill up the hole... buy a double din radio.. It will look like it belongs..

Thanks guys. I have been trying to figure this out for a few weeks and have never had any responses before from anywhere else. I think it may be time to upgrade. I want to look into a head unit that looks somewhat factory, same size as the cinder block in the dash currently. double din? I will do some research on that. Thanks again.

I am doing a bunch of upgrades to the electrical once the truck gets back from the shop- got rear ended. I am going to attempt the courtesy light mod, side marker led's in the side view mirrors since the schrock eliminated my factory ones and maybe an extra relay/ fuse block to add an e fan. I will try to do some decent write ups with pictures.

Well you came to the right place. Yes, it's a double din sized radio. Prices have come way down and there are a lot of good choices, and buys out there. I've always had good luck with Crutchfield.com. You might spend a couple bucks more from them but the information, and install kits they give you free are worth it. I'm interested to know about the Leds in the mirrors.

Crutchfield.com is the best for info.. then you can scrounge the web for the best deal.

I bought a Kenwood Double Din.. and I love it, but when I have to get a new one, I am going to get a touch screen DVD type DD.. I say this because there are so many options you can do with this.. Back Up Cameras, Navigation.. blah blah blah. But look into the Touchscreens. Plus the run more power, meaning more watts, meaning louder in the truck..
