The Pacific NW X club is trying to organise a trail run for the weekend of March 9-11 (Fri-Sun). Our goal is to run the trip outlined here on this website:
http://www.brian894x4.com/Lowerhellscanyontrip.html
Which basically starts in Baker City, OR and runs throughout the lower Hells Canyon area on the border with OR and ID. It includes the Oxbow and Hells Canyon Dams and going up the Kleinschmidt grade (one of steepest single land roads in Idaho, up along the canyon wall from River to top of canyon). As well as exploring some abandoned mining towns/sites.
Here is a general map of the route (aside from the Portland part, which not all of us are starting from):
This is a rather isolated area and temps appear to be in the 20s-30s at night. So it is highly recommended to bring lots of warm clothes, blankets, extra food and gas. We're still working out the details on meeting time/place in Baker City. So stay posted for that.
If you are interested in going, please let us know. You can also check out PNWX on Facebook (which I will post a link for once I get home from work).
