Plastidip or Paint????

Ok, now i'm gunna throw out a new one because the kid hit me with another one.... Plastidip vs Paint? We need/want to eventually re-paint the Tardis and he has an idea that he likes of matte grey or black with blue striping and re-christening as The Enterprise (complete with ncc-1701 on the roof rack) or as The Defiant (same gig with id number). We debate about the Firefly Serenity and he thinks Boba Fett is lame so maybe not Slave 1. And he said we can't do the Millenium Falcon because that would be Sacrilege and the gobbles would punish us. I love my kid!!

So, in that spirit, he has been watching Plastidp vids (eg, http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=rNY9Dx617N8&desktop_uri=/watch?v=rNY9Dx617N8) and asked why not do that instead of paint? How does it wear? What kind of longevity? How does it do on trails considering we brush up against stuff?

Im clueless again as his co$t argument is very good as is the "we can peel it off and do something different later or if we don't like it" argument. The Boss just chuckles, shakes her head, and reminds us of her Rules: NO Drilling, cutting, or lifting and no more spent than $300/month to play unless saved for and agreed to ahead of time. Anything else, she's like "Have at it"! Very cool but does make the lights issue quite complicated.

Under the hood, adding that we're back in the great southwestern desert where heat is a factor, we're gunna go with coloured braid or something over chromin' it up to add some colour and maybe coloured lug-nuts onto the stock X wheels as we all 3 like the silver stock X wheels.

For off-road fun, we've agreed to stick to stuff we can do stock like trails n sand stuff.

Yea, I need him to come do mine lol. The Large SUV/Truck kit is like 4 gallons of dip... Wonder if it's thick enough.

Just had fun with this over the weekend. Plasti Dipped the trim, rims and mirrors. Came out great but my thumb is beat from the rattle can!

"The Boss" would like Dipping. its not permanent. You can peel it off if you don't like it. Paint would have to be sanded, removed, repainted in order to be removed. Dip? Just grab a corner and pull.

Rules: NO Drilling, cutting, or lifting and no more spent than $300/month to play unless saved for and agreed to ahead of time.

Thats TOO MANY RULES! Bruce Springsteen should lighten the hell up.

Found out for myself over the weekend that it doesn't just "peel right of" EFF plastidip. I say better get Maaco. There won't be another drop of that stuff to touch my truck. On an unrelated note, Line-x wants over $700 to do my hood, grill, bumper, and rocker panels.

It is if it's laid down thick enough. When I did my hood the first time, you could tell by peeling it where it was thick or thin. Thicker parts was way easier to peel.

Hey, a build thread is a build thread. Whether you're SAS'ing or slamming it to the ground. Look at mine. The only thing I've done is new wheels/tires, Xoskel light cage w/ lights and some painting.
