So a couple weeks ago I had to drive through some deep mud which came up a few inches past the bottom of the doors. After this my engine started making a loud screeching noise (for the lack of a better term)
This may seem far fetched but I think some how mud leaked in through my front main seal because unfortunately I got stuck in the mud and I was sitting in it for 2 or 3 min while we hooked the strap up to my buddies heep so he could get me out. Is this even possible to get oil past the front main seal it hasn't been replaced so it is 15 years old but it wasn't leaking oil and still isn't.
The reason I think it's the oil pump is because the next day I put some sea foam in the oil ran it for a few minutes the drained the oil and even poored some clean oil in to try to flush more of the old oil out. Put the drain plug, filter, and new oil in started it up and the noise is still there.
Also now that I have driven it for a couple of weeks (runs and drives fine can't even tell anything is wrong with it while driving it other than its making the screeching noise) the lifters have started ticking so I'm thinking they are gummed up and i didn't get all the crap out of the oil.
I've changed the oil twice in two weeks and the noise is still there I'm currently in the process of taking the engine out of the xterra to figure out what's going on I know the oil pump can be replaced with the engine in the x but I figured i had better take a look at the internals to make sure it is just the pump that is making the noise.
I guess after my long winded post my questions are...
1. Do you guys think I'm right in thinking something got in the pump or am I just crazy? Lol
2. Am I wasting my time pulling the engine out of the x or am I wasting my time? Is there an easier fix?
Thank you for any suggestions and advice if you need anymore info just ask have a video of it running that I'll post in a minute
