Leaking transaxle

Hey all, hopefully I can get some help. The passenger side transaxle of my front differential is leaking severely. Not sure what to do. Hopefully it's just a seal or gasket that needs replaced. Anyway, how do I do this and what type of fluid should I get for it and where do I put it in and how. Take a look at the picture to see what I'm taking about. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Looks like a damaged seal to me. The gear oil is plain 80w-90 and hold just under 4 qts when empty.

For filling, you should see on the front of the diff a plug with a square indention on it. Put a 1/2" drive socket in there and turn. On the bottom side, you should see something similar for draining.

Be aware that there is an oil seal behind the flange of the actual axle shaft. Once you pull the CV axle, the flange behind it is the actual axle shaft that goes into the differential. There is a seal around that shaft to keep the diff fluid in.

Fortunately, according to the FSM, it's just captive in there and should be easy to remove.

To replace the seal you'll need a seal puller (which basically looks like a small claw on a stick) and something big enough to drive the new seal in evenly. Harbor Freight sells a seal and bearing installer for like $20.

Thanks for that. My truck is missing a front axle so I wasn't sure how to describe the seal replacement.
