Installing stock RF w/ aux input in earlier year.

I have a 2006 Off Road with the stock RF 6-disk changer. A while ago I acquired a factory RF head unit from a later year X - one of the ones with an Aux Input. However, looking at the newer unit, I can't see any obvious place where the Aux plugs in. I guess it is part of the pins on those large connectors on the back of the unit.

I'm wondering if there is any way to install this head unit in my 2006 so that I can have an aux input. I know I could go get an antenna override and use that, but I like the idea of making it look and behave the way it would have from the factory.

Does this new unit have the plug in on the back? If so you may buy an adaptor and drill a hole in the dash and mount it

That was my plan, but I don't see a standard aux plug on the back. That's why I think it is built into the large pin connectors.

Yep, you nailed it. The Aux in wiring is on the harness connector; the one with 2 rows of 8 pins with no keying slot. Pins 74 (r), 75 (l), and76 (ground). Problem is, on the 2005, they put the steering wheel controls there and the 2007 has the Aux wiring. I can't say what they did on the 2006, as NICO doesn't have that FSM available.

Looking at the connector, these pins are on the far left of it; Left Audio is in the top corner, Ground below that and Right on the bottom, next to Ground:

75 73 ...
76 74 ...

If you see a Red, Grey, and Blue wire over there, STOP!! Those are the steering wheel controls, and you'll have to redo the harness to make the newer radio work. If you see White, Black and Red, you should be OK to continue.

Note: I hold no liability if you blow your speaker system because the harness is not correct.

Sounds like more risk than I am willing to take. Anyone want to buy a nice RF headunit with aux input? It looks like I'm doing the antenna thing.

Anyone have a recommendation on a kit that will do that? I've heard they exist but I have not looked into them.

The 06 has the steering wheel controls. As for the antenna adaptor it lacks in sound quality but it works. I tried the I sound brand off of Amazon. It works but the volume levels are low when using it. You have to crank it up to listen to it.
