Hydro assist?

I posted this up a few months ago anf talked to some guys about when offroading. Basic idea is it could be done but would be a bad idea. However a few guys i spoke to said that if i swapped my tre with heims they didnt see any reason the system wouldnt hold up with the rest of the system upgraded already. I assume you are experiencing the difficulty of steering with the lokka like me and looking for something to help. I have bought a couple power steering pumps and plan on modding one of them to run higher psi to see if it helps any. If it turns out to be worthwhile i will post up a write up more than likely.

My thoughts on a street rig with hydro assist - If you need that much force to make things move, that force might be stressing whatever the weak link in that chain is.

Reinforce accordingly.

True Story. Regular power steering is more than ample for what our trucks can ride on.

It is not the rod ends that are the issue, it is the adjusters that will go long before they do. after that would be a toss up between the idler arm and the rod ends. for an IFS rig it would just be a bad idea. SAS is another thing all together, but we are not into that realm yet.

Thats only true till you find yourself with a lokka up front. Then your all crying for not lifting weights everyday.

Right, but that's treating the symptom.

So, yes, its like you ARE stronger...but, the ease for you doesn't translate in to ease for everything from the steering wheel to the tires.

Hence the need to reinforce those components accordingly.

:D

BTW - Driving with a locked front requires some technique in tight situations, just as driving with a locked rear on ice does....or driving on soft sand, or off camber, etc.

IE: When picking lines, its more analogous to driving on soft sand, in that you try to choose lines that avoid tighter turns, and go more for longer sweeping turns, having tires hit obstacles more perpendicular so as to avoid having to turn AGAINST a rock, etc. Guys with ordinary open diff'd fronts often have the exact same issues, in that they put the side of a tire against a rock, and try to turn INTO the rock to say climb it, etc....so that their steering system is straining against the load.

Typically, if its too hard to turn, there's a reason, and, backing up a smidge and repositioning is a better solution as far as the steering system is concerned.

Plan B - A Gym Membership IS less expensive than a hydro-assist system.
