How to physically get the headliner out of the truck...

Working on re-doing my headliner...

I got all of the trim peeled back and dome lights etc removed.

Questions:

1) Do I need to remove the seat belt bolts on the front seats? I can peel the plastic trim back some, but it still seems enough to catch the head liner and not let it come out. It uses some ridiculous torx bit that I don't have.

2) How to physically remove this thing...I know through the hatch. But this thing seems to really be wedged in there pretty awkwardly. Any tips on the actual removal once the trim is back? I am trying not to crease the board if I can, but for now it just doesn't seem to move easily while I try to shimmy it out the hatch.

I took ratchet straps and pulled the side plastics out a bit and carefully worked it out. I didn't care about damaging the headliner fabric since it was coming off anyways but do be careful about bending the shell......its very delicate.

I'll see if I can find a pic of the straps shortly

I was able to get it by being a little more forceful. I wasn't sure if I needed to take the seat belt off or not...ended up not needing to.

Also, I forgot about the 4 push pin style clips that pop into the ceiling. That explains why it didn't go anywhere the first time...

DOH

:sure:

Camo Burlap. Two packages from Walmart...13 bucks total plus one can of 3m spray adhesive ...

I didn't really want camo burlap at first...but it was the only thing walmart had was the right size to fit the width of the headliner...and they didn't have fabric by the roll. Didn't want to turn today into a wild goose chase for a certain fabric...so I figured...let's go for it

Research glue types ... get something STRONG and heat resistant. I got 3m spray adhesive 77 I think is what it was...I got it from wal mart.

Mine basically fell down again after 2 days of sitting in the parking lot at work.

I am going to end up taking it all out and just spray painting it. The thickness of the fabric was also enough to make it difficult to fit the sun visor screws etc back in the sheet metal weld nuts.

Today I found a fast way to remove the dried up foam from the headliner. I scrubbed with my upholstery attachment on my shop vac. It really cleaned up!

Good tip. I didn't have an upholstery attachment on my shop vac...but used it with the regulator attachment to help scrape some of it off. A wire brush worked well too.

Post pics of how your headliner turns out!
