Like I said I drive a 2nd gen but my thought would be a cam or crankshaft sensor. I believe the cam sensor would be on your new distributor. Did the problem start then? Do they even have a crankshaft sensor I guess would be the question if not.. you got me on the communication bit.
I appreciate the response. it drives fine but for no obvious reason there is a loss in power. an intermittent loss of power. almost as though it is starving for fuel. but without the leaning out symptoms and the resulting backfire through intake which happens when too much air and not enough gas. then it drives just fine.. a real head and ass scratcher. visual inspection of sensors shows pristine condition, no carbon build up. I'm starting to suspect a connection issue but am unable to replicate symptoms sitting in driveway pulling and shaking wiring harness. Son has had it serviced regularly . and is clean under hood. I suspect a grounding issue.
can not account for the symptoms. can you explain a slow sometimes reduction in power, and the other symptoms are a speedometer and tachometer sometimes not working. and not at the same time. the frustrated slap of the dash which sometimes corrects the gauge anomalies forces me to considering dash removal and reinstall , unplug and re-plug the stuff back in. Basicly a connection or even a grounding issue.
