Yes. The carrier should be the same and you would need 31-spline shafts. It could be done. How much are you going to pay for shafts? Factor that into the "cheap" aspect of it. It's also possible that the length may not be exact from the older HB to the X. Which may mean custom shafts instead of junk yard shafts.

/not sure on that last bit
//just offering it as a possibility

I would not run the auto locker in the rear since it always has power. I mean, you could I believe...but I know my auto hubs in the front get sticky sometimes, and the lokka ratchets and clunks quite a bit. It is not extremely subtle.

Even on Lokka's website, they don't recommend running it if you can't disengage the hubs (FAQs)

Did some digging.
Pretty much out for me with 4.9 gearset.
Carriers are totally different and no 4.9 for it.
99 and some 00 Frontier axles are right lenght and 31 spline.
Just not easy at best to do.

But...

Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I contacted Lokka,their response...

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the feedback.

We are considering the rear in future, but nothing is definite.

kind regards
RJ

I know the swap from 33 to 31 spline has been done ONCE to my knowledge, and it was to run a lunchbox locker for an early frontier? I wasn't around to hear about the process, I just heard about the aftermath.

Don't know if it would be worth it or not.

Sent from space and stuff

I have a friend with a daily driven XJ with a lunchbox locker in the back. Just have to be careful on the turns.

Good to know...maybe I just feel it more in the front since it is connected to the steering.
