get rid of the y pipe completey and do two pipes back to the muffler. then get a 2 in 1 out muffler. I have been running that way for several years now and love it. Robcary also did his that way and I think he did a write up on it on here somewhere. his setup is very similar to mine, except mine is a 2000 and only has 2 cats so I didnt have to worry about that on mine.

i had a stock fit aftermarket secondary cat passenger side burn thru it in a year it started to rattle like crazy that was $150 kinda pissed. intender i see what rob did there and he welded his pipes to the secondary cats. i like the idea of 2 in 1 out now i understand what you mean. my other question was if anyone has replaced the secondary cats with some custom piping + weld in hiflo cats. Prime is that what you have if so could i see a picture ?

I have aftermarket bolt ins at the moment. Same as you they were dead in 8 months. Both of them. Effing terrible.

As soon as I've got the scratch I'm going to this shop down the road from me to get custom pipes done.

Too bad you need cats. I put headers in so the primary ones are gone but I think the secondary ones in my 2001 can be replaced by the pipes that are in the same position on 2000 xterras. That will still give me the rear O2 bungs and then I could do custom after that.

interesting maybe ill risk it and go no cats... your right i didnt think of that because there is xterras with two primary cats and there is mine with 4 i need to look into that

Cats are a federal emissions thing. You can get away with eliminating two of them about 98% of the time. The only way I'd get rid of all 4 is if your state has no inspections or smog testing.

Those are for a frontier though. I'm not sure if they would work. And yeah, if you have any type of inspection where you live then you would probably fail without cats.

I saw Intender posted the clubx link above...but here are the photos attached to this thread.

I got a Magnaflow straight through designed muffler. It has 2 inlets of 2" diameter and a single outlet of 2.5" diameter. Note that straight through mufflers are non-directional, so you could use it to do 2.5" into the muffler, and dual outlets.

I got 2" pipe custom bent from each catalytic converter to the inlets of the muffler. I used a single 2.5" diameter pipe as the outlet with a simple turn down under the bumper.

Muffler was $112 on Amazon. I paid $120 to have it welded up with custom pipe.

I did not do catalytic converters since I didn't do headers, so I still have the stock ones. If I went headers, I would get some hi flow cats installed before all the bends.
