'00 timing belt

I had a shop install my 2nd timing belt at 217,000. Motor was running great when I took it in.
Shop foreman called and said the tech had installed the belt off a notch and opened timing cover to correct it. Not really sure how long or hard they ran it.
Picked it up New Years eve after they said it was corrected but thought the valves sounded noisy so it sat all weekend I had them roll back it Monday morning.
Foreman called again 10:30 or so after they put us in a rental and said truck was fine.
He then called at 3:00 pm and told us to "stay in the rental"as they were fooling with distributor etc to "fine tune it some more".
Sure it's not all they are working on but no word today. Anybody familiar enough to know if they screwed my engine by that mistake? :(
Thanks-
Jim

They need to pull it all back apart and re do it. not just try to play with the distrib timing. By this time that will need to be addressed also. I really doubt that there will be any real damage, more likely just things are out of sink so it does not want to run correctly

Thanks GraniteX-
That is exactly what they are trying to pull off. Replaced plugs and wires which was over the estimate given and then replaced the distributor "at no cost to us".
Told us to pick it up last night. Paula drove it home and it was so loud in 1st gear (it's an automatic) that I was looking for the receipt for the exhaust work we had done in the spring. Did not find it and she left.
She called me in tears from work- truck noisy in 1st and really slow. The "punch it Chewie" factor that is one of the reasons we were trying to make sure belt didn't break and trash the valves is not there.
We are returning it to the shop tomorrow and will quote your advice.
Glad to hear you think motor is not damaged.
Thanks again,
Jim
