I have the dreaded antifreeze leak on back side of engine

This morning I noticed antifreeze dripping from the cross frame where the engine and manual trans connect. I found the only video on you tube with a guy showing where the leak is on some deteriorating hoses and lines that he could see due to removing his trans for service.
Is there any way to get to those tubes and hoses without removing the trans or plenum at the top of engine?
What kind of cost is this if I have to get it fixed at a mechanic?
The X hit the magic 20 years only Jan 1st and even though it is in excellent shape I am really thinking its time for something newer.
Thank you

Typically it's the heater hoses going through the firewall. Cut them off and banana peel, do not try to pull them off as the pipes on the firewall will break and they are unobtainable and part of the core.

Other possible source is the two hoses between the upper and lower intake. Replacement is just some random lengths of hose. Again, cut after you get the upper intake loose bit no banana peeling necessary.

Transmission does not need to be removed either way.

It's not hard to pull the upper intake. The first two hoses he points out are the two between the upper and lower intakes. Pull the upper intake, cut, replace.

Good to hear. I pulled the plenum on my 87 4runner and had a hell of a time. This engine is much cleaner with less miles so wont put up as much as a fight. No garage no need a good day of weather, also will try to get a better idea of the location before tearing down.

The screws on the upper are an H6 captive socket. If you struggle with them, just bang an 12mm onto the head and try again.
