Supposedly the 9 speed is pretty good. Losing 3 pedals everywhere makes me sad. But I get it.
Not sure what to think of the new 9-speed automatic transmission. New transmissions can be tricky beasts and it is not just Nissan that has experienced difficulties with 'new' transmissions.
Not mentioned in the blog is the fact that this engine will be a GDI engine, not an MPI engine as found on the 1st and 2nd generation Xterras and most earlier Frontier models.
GDI engines require more pro-active maintenance such as shorter oil change intervals. But if it is more fuel efficient and still powerful, could be attractive.
GDI = gasoline direct injection
MPI = multi-port injection
I am going to pass due to the limited sign in options.Would love it if you wouldn't mind taking a moment to copy/paste that comment on the article page itself too.. We would love to see it spur up some engagement and dialog ; )
Nissan's trans issues seem to be focalized around their CVT transmissions and heat control issues.. Somehow that's one of the things Toyota has gotten right thanks to the Prius on their behalf.
