Don't know about where you guys live but around here they sell quik fists at our local Tom's 4x4 Superstore. I'm sure any off road store would have them.

LED marker lights have been installed.

I took the super easy route to get these swapped:

1. Take headlight housing off.
2. Unbolt the 10mm bolt that holds the headlight to the fender.
3. Pop the headlight itself out, just a few inches.
4. There's barely enough room for me to jam my skeleton fingers into the opening to twist the bulb housing out of the marker.
5. Swap bulb for LED.

I'm really happy with the way it turned out. It's subtle enough that it's not overbearing, and they're visible both during the day and at night with the headlights on. Exactly what I wanted.

Got some new stuff in over the last few days. Going to try to get some of it done before the GLX run, but I leave tomorrow...

Many exciting things to come, including secret mod #1 - roof! The rest are all things on my big ol' to-do list.

Hmmmmmm....a sneaky one you are

Yes indeed!

Until then, the weekend was spent in Indiana.

And then there was this guy (I realize this just looks like a squished picture of the Terradactyl, but it's a video; click it!) -

Somehow, this 4x2 full-size Chevrolet Tahoe Denali snuck into the park with street tires and no recovery gear. Thankfully, he had a hitch. Vehicle was recovered (first time the rear RLC was used for recovery), the day was saved, and a juicy steak dinner was had by all.

Did some quick math this morning to realize that I won't need an oil change until after Windrock in September...gotta love that 4 mile commute every day.

I wouldn't go over a year with the same oil.. I don't know what the "recommended" time is or anything but that's just me. It really depends on how much you drive, how you drive (city/highway), etc. There's so many variables.

I'd let somebody else chime in with more knowledge before you set that in stone ;)

I've always firmly held to the milage not the timeline, oil doesn't lose it's viscosity notably when sitting unused, if it did, it'd be horribly unsafe to buy oil at the store cause you might be getting "old" oil. It doesn't have "use by" dates on it's containers...

The "3 months or 3000 miles" is the old adage to keep you in the habit. If memory serves the 2nd gen manual says every 3750mi, hell, most BMW's say once a year or every 15k miles...

BMW says 15K because they hold around 2 gallons of oil; it's expensive in Germany. Blackstone actually bought old oil off ePay and found that it was actually still usable. Additive packages were vastly different than today, but they could've been used.

3000 miles is way overkill. Closer to 5K without any oversight I wouldn't be concerned about. Much more than that, I'd test it.

I change my oil twice a year.. Spring and. Fall... No matter what the miles.

Problem is with short trips the engine never heats the oil enough. The oil retains water (moisture) as it doesn't get hot enough to cook the moisture out.

I usually average around 30 miles a day, with lunch and all that. Should be fine for the approximate time between recommended oil changes, yeah? I do try to stick to the 3-4K intervals, and having synthetic makes me a tad more lenient than I used to be.

Also, power steering pump and starter replaced. No more power steering squeal for this guy.

Just two items knocked off an endless list...le sigh.

The Terradactyl had a great small mod weekend. Let's see...

1. Did the rear hatch raiser mod with a surprising gain (almost 6 inches). Granted, another way to achieve this is a body lift and 33s ;)

2. Installed a new Pioneer head unit with one of those fancy new flush-mount USB drives (I was always afraid I'd accidentally smack a full-size one and break it).

IMG_20121196_zps779bd968.jpg

3. Fully plumbed the snorkel. Yes, I was partially posing this whole time. Until now, I had left the hole with the sensor untouched. Now it's all one tunnel from snorkel head to engine. Got creative (gently) with a ratchet strap, too (couldn't take the air box out since I had the plumbing so tight and secure; didn't want to go through that again).

IMG_20121197_zps9a9c1072.jpg

4. Got this neat little bag for recovery gear from Blue Ridge Overland Gear (high quality and highly recommended)
- holds a tow strap, gloves, and way more.

IMG_20121186_zps2498dbe2.jpg

5. Topped off the coolant. Still running pretty hot when the A/C is on, though.
6. Saw this guy at Home Depot. I see him so frequently and I've given him so many XN handout business cards...to no avail :(

IMG_20140531_154223_zps0466b36c.jpg

7. And finally, I redid my headliner. It's been bugging me for so long and I'm so glad it's done. This really needs no introduction.

Yes, this is what my passengers will see when they look up.

It needs a little work, but I like that I can slice it open along one of the tile lines, spray some glue in, and stick it back down without leaving any trace.

She's loaded back up, washed, cleaned, and ready for adventure - complete with TIE fighter schematics ;) ...and dog.

Awesome stuff, man!

How exactly did you finish out the plumbing on the snorkel? I'm in the same situation now and am curious how you did it.
