So I haven't done much yet. I did pull off mud flaps but I needed new headlights so I got em.

When I get the headlights I'm going to install halos ( which I have to make myself because no one makes them)

Seems like a great source but I'm not going projector. Had them on a mustang and I hated them. I saw the halo kit. I'm not a big fan of white halos and I don't want color change. I'm going to go with basic green rings.

Just personal I guess. Never liked the way they looked. I like the light spread of conventional beams.

Although I do like projectors on beamers and a select few others. But vehicles suck as xterras frontiers and other large headlight assembly vehicles.

Please. Don't.

I could go on and on for days about the technical reasons why it's not a good idea. At the end of the day headlights not about what you think looks good. They're about safety and visibility.

The light produced by an HID bulb throws in different directions as a halogen. The result is glare that can blind oncoming drivers and actually create poor visibility for you. This is because the massive amount of light that is being thrown is going everywhere except where you need it.

Yes, there are open frame HID reflector housings that do not use projectors. Volvo did this for years.

However, simply dropping an HID bulb into a housing not made for it is not the way to go. There is a reason they're not DOT approved.

Not sure where u got this info from but it's not accurate. The light dispersion is the same. What makes them bright and others not so bright is temperature. 6000k is the brightest. Which would go to say that every car with 6000k color temp is blinding people. Most newer cars have projectors because they project light better. But it doesn't mean that they are only designed for hid. I've seen stock vehicles with projectors utilize halogen and open assemblies use xenon. Most cars have standard open lens with halogen vs projectors with hid because it's cheaper. Nothing to due with safety.

Manufacturers are looking for profit. I've been dealing with hid kits for years. Now I'm not saying to go out and buy cheap eBay ones. If you get them get the reliables

I always thought HIDs can melt a halogen housing because they much hotter. In fact I have seen headlights where the inside of the lense actually started getting wavy and wrinkly because of the heat. This was someone who ran their lights even during the day because their DRLs would mess up the ballast so they would have to turn them all every time they drive. So the plastic had two endure much more heat exposure than most normal use.

I have never seen that happen. But if you have drl then it would be smart to pull the fuse. I guess with 55w it could happen. They burn hotter brighter and burn out twice as fast

Stray with 35w. Oh also I have seen people buy cheap aftermarket housing assemblies that get wavy and start to give with halogens

Yeah this was on a newer lancer. I used to have one of those and I was part of a forum for them and I think the guy did have a 55w kit. It was the oem housing. Well just like it was mentioned before, just make sure that it's safe and you're not blinding others and you'll be alright.

Here is a list of cars I've had them on and for how long without issue

1996 mustang ( actually had projectors with halogen for about 3 month. High beams started melting housing got regular headlight assembly ran hid for 2 years with no issue minus changing a bulb

Chevy s10 30000k 3 years
Mitsubishi Eclipse 15000k 2y
Chevy Impala purple low green high 2y
Ford F-250 10000k 3 y
Toyota Camry 1yr
Ford ranger centuries

Besides changing a bulb I've never had issues. All had stock or A/M open housings. Nothing melted. Never blinded anyone. I see loads better. I live by hid. I'll die by hid. Remember though. You get what you pay for. If you buy $10 hid kit expect to have garbage. I've seen those set housings on fire.

Oh one more vehicle. Xterra 2 days

My biggest problem with it is the legality. Hella is on the steering committee for lighting laws and my company is affiliated with Hella. If you replace the halogens with xenon it is supposed to be for off road use only. If there is ever a wreck and the other driver happens to mention the lights you are putting yourself at a large liability. I personally see no need for them. Tried them in the Xterra and hated them. My Hella high performance halogens work better for me in the Sentra. Otherwise, looks great man.

Now I've never heard of legality issues under 8000k and above 3500k. The higher ones I could understand. The most issues someone might have legally if lets say you have 6000k would be if it was professionally installed compared to 16yo John smith who just got off work at Taco Bell and slapped em on in autozone parking lot. I'll have to look it up but there is a color temp law that states what is street and offroad. 15000k to 30000k is definitely O/R

Just replaced the 2 chrome spot lights with a 24 inch led bar also replaced the instrument lights and gear indicator light with red LED. Sadly I'm removing the green headlights due to grief from local cops
