I am fixing to buy wheels and tires. I stumbled in a used set of 33X12.50X15 with 600 miles on them for $600. My question I are these tires good at all for the trails or a waste of money? Thanks!

they're they're the old style MT/R's I got horrible gas milage on them and they're LOUD, but, otherwise they were great tires. I'd be worried about why they're selling a full set of tires for $600 with only 600 miles on them though. granted, that's not that big of a discount, if they're the new style kevlars tirerack has em for $205 a piece....which would prompt me to ask....is it worth the extra $220 to have brand new tires?

They are not the Kevlars. He said he is putting his smaller tires back on and he needs the cash. My thought was $600 and not pay any taxes lol but I don't want a crappy tiire either.

ok....lets try it like this...

the ones on the left are the new, the ones on the right haven't been made since sometime in 2009, if you're buying the ones on the right for almost as much as a set of the ones on the left would cost you, save your money and go buy a set of the ones on the left, or, a set of these

mud-terrain-t-a-km2.jpg

they'll be only slightly more, they're NEW, and not tires that're at least 2+ years old, with an unknown treatment history....

if you're buying them to put on a spare set of wheels to go wheeling with, fine get the used ones, if you're gonna be DDing with em, get new ones....not knowing how hard of a life they've had up to this point goes a very long way toward my distrust of used tires...

I had the old style MTR's on a fullsize bronco in a 35x12.50, they were by far the loudest tire I've ever had, louder than my dual 3.5" straight pipes (on a supercharged 351W) on the road, and they wore out ***FAST*** almost bald at 20K, replaced at 21,275mi and I'll personally never buy another set of those again, even if they still made them.

I ran them for a couple of years, they stuck to rock like glue. I only sold them to pay for most of another set of larger for the same price.

The guy that I sold them to is still running them to this day, I still prefer them to the kevlars that replaced them.

Ok Thanks! I will just spend the extra and get Kevlars or the BFGs.

I only said that because of where I wheel.. For a everyday tire and med core trails they rock.. But I find my self getting into more and more hard rock climbing and I need a tire with better side walls..

I would buy them again if I wasn't looking to turn my.

Keeping in mind, my manner of driving/wheeling has changed considerably but, out of the wheeling I've done with my BFG MT KM2's and what I did with the Goodyear MTR (1st Gen)'s I've gotten the KM2's through much hairier stuff than my KM2's took....

if you play in sand very often beware, (again, partially my driving style) the MTR's dug deep VERY fast....the KM2's dig but not as quickly.

For Mud...either one shoveled nicely, KM2's got me unstuck after I'd buried it in 2wd...flipped to 4HI and drove right out...
for rock I prefer the KM2's because of their tread design, it works great for the type of rock I run on around here.
for water....I recommend you stay out of it ;)
For on road usage, the old design MTR's got medium-high ratings on Tire Rack, the MTR Kevlars and KM2's are two of their highest rated tires.

I had 1st Gen MT/Rs on my old Jeep (31x10.50) and they were GREAT tires. Yeah, they were loud, but they lasted forever (about 60k miles before bald) and rode great on and off road. I currently have 2nd Gen MT/Rs on my X (32x11.50) and they are the worst damn street tires on the planet. They are about 15k old right now, and I've had to have them rebalanced 4 times (due for another one), they flat spot if I let the truck sit for more than a day, and they are just about shot tread wise. If I got a chance to buy another new set of 1st gen MT/Rs, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I guess it depends on the vehicle. I ran a set of the old style GY MT/R...loved them. They lasted and I resold them as well. Don't like the look of the new version. I'm going with the BFG AT's and if somehow I can get 2 sets, the MT's.

I really think GY screwed up when the stopped makeing the older version MT/R for what ever reason. I hope they bring it back.

I still run the old MTR's and love them. My lift unfortunately has made the camber a bit off and they wear on the edges. The tread from my daily driving also seems to have worn down faster than I'd like, but they are awesome tires to wheel with and I dont think they are as loud as some say they are - or I just dont care :)

Im thinking I got them in used in 2009 between August and October so they have run pretty well for amost 3 years.

i'd buy them new if they were still making them

hmm....mebbe my bronco was too heavy....as was my foot....and a bit too many horses....it was fun to break all 4 loose on pavement and scare the hell out of people ;)

I don't see breaking them loose on pavement being THAT much harder on them than breaking them loose trying to rock climb....and it was a once in a while squawk not a long burn out....not that hard on them....certainly not 20K vs 60K milage...after a bit of looking at reviews, from what I could find, most people said they typically got around 12-25K on them, that they're GREAT for dedicated offroad tires but shiate for wet/snowy/icy on road. Keeping in mind also, until you've experienced better, you may very well not see a problem with a tire. My wife thought the stock BFG Rugged Trails on my X were great tires because they didn't slip as much as the others she'd ever tried. I put the KM2's on and she looked at me and asked what else I'd done to the X because it rode better, and didn't slip, had less body roll, and in general, just rode better, and doesn't slip at all on pavement unless it's snowy/icy and you're TRYING to get it to slip....

So I ended up getting a set of DuraTracs on Soft 8s. Got them
from Luke (Xterror04)

I have my BL but need to get it installed before I can mount these bad boys. Unfortunately I have zero confidence in my ability to install the BL and it seems like all shops in my area won't touch it :/ it doesn't help that I'm a very impatient person lol
