Windshield washer inop - sort of confused!

2002 X, V6,5 sp. My windshield washer quit few weeks ago. Back one works like a charm. Assume same fuse runs both but checked "all" fuses for safety...all good. Looking behind the grille I see a washer motor mounted in the water holding tank and when I had my Wife turn on the rear washer I could feel it humming. I look "under" the vehicle and see on the BOTTOM of the washer water holding tank a round rubber grommet with elect. connector in the center (assume this is the motor for windshield), next to it is a hose connector to another part (assume this is the water hose that supplies water to the front washers). When front wipers are turned "ON" and lever is pulled forward - NOTHING! No humming, nothing. Question....if it is the motor on the BOTTOM of the tank can it be replaced without removing the water holding tank from the vehicle? Would it be a good idea to remove the elect. connector mentioned above to see if I am getting power when the washers are turned on via the wiper lever on the steering col.? Any and all help is appreciated.

Can it? Yes, but Newton says you're going to loose the fluid. Before that, try swapping the connectors and pressing the rear wiper. This would cause the front motor to trigger. If that works, then the motor is good and there's another problem.
